I know this has been talked about over and over in so many different places on this forum, but after searching far and wide I still cannot find a definitive answer. I've already tried setting snes9x to fullscreen through both the menus and the exec line and nothing has worked. Could someone please tell me what i'm doing wrong? If I get this working i'm going to write a howto so other users don't have this problem, but I just can't figure this out. Please help me!

I was never able to find an answer on this either. There were a few posts of people using zsnes instead, but I couldn't get it to launch correctly from the mythmenu. For now I use zsnes and exit out of mythfrontend and run it from a terminal window there.

yeah, see, I read about that too. But what doesn't make sense to me is why snes9x is using such an archaic way of writing to the video. I believe that's the main problem here, because root is the only person allowed to write there or something. Oh well, I really was looking forward to this feature too. I believe it is Knoppix and not a MythTV problem though.

i have done several posts on this subject months back.
And as far as i can tell Zsnes is the only way, to do full screen. which sucks since Zsnes only does 640 x 480 and im left with a Little tiny viewing screen surrounded by black.
As far as getting zsnes to work from myth, that depends on what version of myth/knoppmyth your using.. The newest one is the easiest. Just goto setup/games and then goto SNES.. then change the player to ZSnes.. the older knoppmyth you have to :
1) Goto setup/games and change the binary location to the install dir
2) go into games and press "i" and CLEAR out ALL the checkboxes and settings. They will mess up zsnes since those options are from snes9x.
3) at a command prompt run znes and set it up how you like...
thants it..

I've actually got it to work... I still have black borders but the picture is large enough to fit most of the screen. Here's my command line:
Code: /usr/bin/snes9x -fs -y -r 7
The only "glitch" is that I have to press ESC twice to quit... the first time it will just go into window mode.

At least on my computer that only works with root privilages.. Also .. it has the same problem as Zsnes. HUGE black bars... little tiny screen. the " -sc" is suppose to stretch the image to full screen but it doesnt work.. good effort though.

What resolution are you running the system with? If you reduce the output resolution, the black bars will be smaller... of course with TV out cards this isn't very easy to do. I think mine is limited to 640x480 minimum res...

By "Doesnt work" Do you mean it doesnt work even if run by commandline? Or it doesnt work from the Frontend??

I am set to 800x600 and i could goto 640 x 480..but i like higher resolution.. I dont see what people see in ZSNES myself it feel way clunkyer then snes9x but until there is a Fix for SNES completely ill stick with it.. Good thread though.

alright I am trying to fix this right at this moment. Here's what I have now. I have snes9x working, full screen, with 3 inch black bars on the left and right hand sides (32 inch tv). I used sudo'ed mythtv with root access to snes9x (careful with doing this, major security risk), and then I played with some settings and it just started working. so this is what i'm lookin' at, basically I have went through all of the settings and I now know what works and what doesn't. Whenever I set it to stretch the screen, it basically halves the size of the "screen" and then puts like 1 and a half copys of the game on the screen....here, i'll draw a pretty picture.

Heh, thanks. I appreciate it. Question for you though, how did you set zsnes to work via the frontend? I got it workin' from console, but it just doesn't start from the frontend. Any ideas?

Well, I got zsnes working, but now I have some more problems. It goes fullscreen, but the screen is just black. Looking at the zsnes1.cfg file I see that the VideoModeLin = 3 wghich is 640x480 fillscreen. Anyone know how to change the res? Maybe that's what's causin' me probs...

Mikey if you are still working on this... you can kind of cheat by renaming your emu binary to something else and writing a simple shell script and saving it as the name that your original emu binary was called. Basically in the shell script you can launch the renamed emu binary and use "sed" to strip out unwanted cmd line arguments as well as add new ones. So the shell script sits in between myth and your emu binary and cleans/injects parameters before launching your desired binary.
Also have you checked to make sure you fullfilled the requirements for fullscreen?
"-fullscreen or -fs
Start the emulator in full screen mode, rather than a window on the X11
port if supported by your X server, a suitable screen mode is defined in
your XF86Config file and the snes9x binary has root permissions (see above).
"
so you need:
- support in your X server
- suitable screenmode in XF86Config
- root permissions on your emu binary (setuid root or whatever)
