Post subject:  What version of mythtv is in KnoppMyth

Ok,
Just starting to learn about this... but I am trying to figure out what version of MythTv is included in Knoppmyth Release 5A30.2

It appears to be newer than 0.18?? (0.18.2??) I know it is not 0.19.

I'm just trying to understand how the KnoppMyth release numbers correlate to the MythTV release numbers?

Or where I can determine what version of MythTV is included with each release of KnoppMyth.

Thanks.

Yes, I looked at that list. When looking at the list, it would appear that KnoppMyth is a hybrid that incorporates MythTV changes in CVS before the release of newer versions of MythTV.

That is cool in some respects, but leaves me a bit concerned trying to understand what exactly I have. MythTV docs likely do not line up with what is in KnoppMyth. The MythGame section seems to be quite different between KnoppMyth and MythTV... which is a little confusing. Oh well.

Thanks.

I would personally like to see some reference to the MythTV release number within the KnoppMyth release number. (Not just the changelog.) It would be nice for 0.19 to be incorporated into the presumably upcoming KnoppMyth release that includes the very new MythTV 0.19 release.

KnoppMyth builds upon MythTV so it would be nice to see some form of version naming consitency between the two products.

The MythTV docs don't line up with the MythTV releases, either!

1) Typing mythfrontend --version will tell you what tag of MythTV KnoppMyth has (assuming you have already installed it)
2) MythTV 0.19 has an improved --version command. (e.g. mythfrontend --version will tell you exactly what version is being used)

Previously, only exact and full releases were in KnoppMyth (e.g. I think R4V4 had 0.15, R4V5 had 0.16, R5A10 and R5A12 had 0.17, R5A15 had 0.18 ).

After then, things got a little trickier. Due to bugs in 0.18, KnoppMyth has been using MythTV-0.18-fixes, which is not really an exact release (more like a moving target). Is that a fair summary, Cecil?

Soon, KnoppMyth may have 0.19, and all will be well! (for a little while)

Well, /etc/KnoppMyth-version just states what version of KnoppMyth is installed. But yes, that is fair. For about 2.5 years, reading the changelog has served most folks. I'm not changing the naming scheme to reflect what version of MythTV is included. Sorry, I'm just not.

That's fine with me... I was just expressing my opinion in the matter.

I do better understand what the is with the current release of Knoppmyth based on the helpful comments provided here. Thanks!

I look forward to the soon (??!?) to be released next version of KnoppMyth. It is a very nice product from my initial testing.

In the meantime I just have to figure out the correct X server settings to use my HD television with a DVI-HDMI cable. (Working with s-video cable right now.) I'm learning about modline settings right now...

Cheers.
