Post subject:  Asus Pundit network card

Ok, I have my system running perfectly on R4V5 with MythTV 0.19. I have compiled every version of mythtv since debs for R4V5 were halted. I don't want to upgrade to the new version of Knoppmyth for only this one small problem so hopefully there is a solution.

The network card built into my Pundit will cause a kernel panic (KB lights flashing like christmas lights) during boot. I know that the drivers or whatever it is that was in some R4 builds were FUBAR and cuased this when the network card was being brought up and it was plugged in. I've read that some people have gotten around this problem by simply unplugging the network cable during boot up. My work around was to put in a 3Com NIC and problem solved. I'm at a point now that I would like to install a second tuner card but since both slots are being used (one for my PVR350 and the other for the 3Com) I would like to fix the onboard NIC problem.

Could anyone tell me what exactly it is that is causing the kernel panic when the NIC is being brought up and it is plugged in? Is it the driver? Can I patch whatever it is wrong with it? I don't want to have to tell my wife to unplug the network cable in the event that she has to reboot the system when I am not around.

Again the system in it's current state runs without a hiccup and I don't want to go through the headache of re-installing / re-configuring Knoppmyth and pray that I can get my output of the 350 to work as flawless as it is now.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Ummm...ok. Any hints where I could find the fix / answer? I've searched Google and this site to no avail. All I keep getting are solutions such as "replace it with another NIC" or "Unplug the cable as it is booting and re-insert once into MythTv". I've also tried making the IP static rather then grab one via DHCP.

I'm hoping to find a patch tp fix the problem.

Thanks.

the fix had to do with a newer kernel. which has been in knoppmyth since the first R5A releases.

I'll assume that if I use this: http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... gradeHowTo it will hopefully fix the problem?

I'll also assume that a patch to the original Kernel in R4V5 does not exist so that I can recompile it into it?

Thanks.
