I'm confused.

Software/Hardware Details: I'm using 5A30.2 w/ a PVR-150.

The wiki states that the default profile should take 1.1 GB per hour of recording. However, the shows are actually taking up 2.2 GB per hour, as if it was the high quality recording. Should I switch to Low-Quality?

I'm recording these shows to burn and send to deployed military members (the Armed Forces network shows old shows and doesnt show stuff like Galactica), so I'd really like to minimize the number of DVDs Im using.

You need to go into the frontend Setup for Recording Profiles, and change the data rate for the default profile to a lower value. I think that all the profiles are set to the same "high quality" data rate when Myth gets installed, and it is up to you to customize it to your liking.

I'm not sure if this is the case here. I VNC'd in from my home network and looked at the default profile setup in mythfrontend, and it was set for 480x480 resolution, not the "high quality" resolution.

I can't mess with it again until later (VNC is blocked on my work network).

Setting the resolution in Recording Profiles won't affect file size. Only adjusting the video bitrate will make file sizes higher and lower.

Of course, at a specific video bitrate, increasing or decreasing the resolution will affect recording _quality_. But only adjusting video bitrate will affect file size. (Audio bitrate too, of course, but it's pretty minor relative to video bitrate).

Searching the forum should give you some ideas for different resolutions/bitrates you can try. MythTV docs have some info on that as well.

Here is a good page for recommended settings for each of the recording profiles:

You may want to consider leaving the recording quality at high, and setting myth to transcode to mpeg4 afterwards. (Assuming they will be viewing the content on a laptop and not a set-top DVD player.)

The myth box I have been using is a P4-1700 that runs hot, so I've been wanting to avoid high-CPU jobs (besides marking the commercials). I'm thinking I'm going to switch to a P4-2.4 mid-tower (with more PCI slots, more speed, and less heat buildup).

Why is this a dupe of a thread over in the "Hardware" section titled PVR-150 specs? :? http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8756

dartmanx - The people most likley to read and answer your questions read all the sections. As a matter of fact most of the experienced members use the "View posts since last visit" option so we don't miss things. Therefore we tend to notice and be annoyed by dupes, which means you may alienate the very people who can help you the quickest. Not only that, but Cecil doesn't like them, and when he notices them he can be downright tart about it. You'll also get a better and more concentrated discussion if it isn't scattered across multiple threads.

BTW - Please note that this isn't a flame. There is no verbal abuse, name calling, or rudeness. You're bing told what the rules are and why it's in your best interest to follow them. A word to the wise should be sufficient.

I started the other thread because I thought the problem might be with the -150 card itself.
