How come you cannot post details? How come you cannot search the forum? That is really annoying.

You know that playing commercial dvds is not a standard feature of knoppmyth, right?

It isn't ? So it is not a standard feature, but can it be made to have it?

I mean, one thing is to be able to rip a DVD (which I presume is mostly illegal) and another is to simply play it back...for as long as mythtv is my live-tv viewer and recording player and also have a computer with DVD+RW, I thought I was going to be able to use my mythtv for playing commercial DVDs as well and get rid off my store-bought dvd player.

No it can't unless we manage to get the law changed, and ripping has the same issues.

im having problems even finding the dvd with either player

Search for "cd_link.sh" that should turn up several threeads which go through the detailed diagnostics for that issue. Do you have more than one optical drive? That's the most common way to confuse that script...

hmm, i dont think it even recognizes my dvd player
cause i cant get any music or stuff off of a normal cd let alone a dvd

but my dvd player is recognized by the bios

(and i tried both only using the dvd rom and using dvd rom and cd rom, doesnt work either way)

errors i get from xine:
"there is no input plugin availiable to handle dvd:/"
maybe im missing some kind of library? pretty sure im not

That's why I told you to search for the relevant threads, I know they're there because I've walked about a half dozen people through this in hte last year. The problem is that there are about a dozen potential causes and I really don't feel like repeating the long involved diagnostic chain for the 7th or 8th time when you can do a simple search and find it in under 5 minutes.

k
i searched once before and found this thread :/

Wow. I gave you the "keyword" cd_link.sh and the fact that I (tjc) was involved within the last year. Plugging the keyword and the author into the appropriate fields on the search page at http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/search.php and clicking the search button produces 11 hits (no need to narrow it down by date with that few), including this thread which you can skip as "already read". Out of those 10 it shouldn't take more than a couple minutes to decide that one of the more detailed ones is: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5505

I don't mean to be rude or nasty but... Wow...
