Hello, I have been a very happy myth/knoppmyth user for a couple of years now. Thankyou all, your work is well admired and appreciated. For my use the technology has developed sufficient from R4V5 which I am using for me to tackle the issue of upgrading to a newer version. Is there any advise from the forum on upgrading from Knoppmyth R4V5 (myth 0.15) to Mythtv 0.19. Should I directly upgrade from Knoppmyth R4V5 to R5A30.2 If yes, outside of normal backups, is there any pre or post work need to be done. Hi Dennis L, That is a considerable step ![]() Also you could then copy the special /myth files over to the new box, possibly do a restore and be good to go again. There maybe some database issues however there is much talent here on the forum that may be able assist. Mike |

Thanks Mike, My second option was to start from scratch with the new hardware, but I was hoping to preserve all the existing content, TV station setup and system configuration. As I have had no additional replies to my query, I assume there is no preferred upgrade path from R4V5 to the later R5 releases. From those who have installed/upgraded to R5 is there any advice on the best path forward. Best regards Dennis mjl wrote: Hi Dennis L,

Hi Dennis L, There were some changes to the database around the about A12 ~ 16 area, however I don't recall if there were some small issues. Elsewhere on the forum, Xsecrets has made a suggested path to do backups of existing files & directories that maybe of value. If you build a new system on seperate hardware, you can copy all your recordings accross and with a copy of your mysql backup from the old /myth/backup you may be able to do a restore to get things flowing again. You would have to go through and re-tweak the settings a little but may get most things back. It is great having two boxes, one to learn on while the other is a source of information and settings ![]() If you choose to try the R5b7, it's operation is slightly different, might want to look at mythtv.org documentation. You may want to do an A26 or A30 then when things are good, do an upgrade to the B7. Each of us are different so do what works best for you. Enjoy and have a great day. Mike |

We've had at least a couple people post success stories about doing a R4V5 to R5B7 upgrade now. I'd say make a good backup and go for it. ![]() See the instructions here - http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9069 |

I agree with TJC. Upgrading from R4V5 to R30A2 was the cleanest upgrade I have ever done. The only thing I had to fix was the Lirc Serial stuff for my remote, so the daemon started at bootup. Don't forget - backup first, then copy backup dir to another machine just to be safe ! Rgds, Pete |
