Sometimes when i delete a recording, the process takes a long time and the connection to the backend dies. (this is a front/backend machine). This often results in corruption of the links for webmyth (so the backend is still looking for a file that has been deleted). is this a common problem/easy solution?
thanks

Happened to me, too. It was during a record of another show.

My workaround has been to a) not delete while a recording is going, and b) hope 0.19 somehow fixes the problem.

I have not had this problem, but I do wonder if there is common thread..

What version of knoppmyth are people using?
using LVM?
Anything custom or non-standard about installs?
what kind are hardware?

Does the system get a chance to write anything out to /var/log/messages ?

Mar 17 06:25:36 mythtv syslogd 1.4.1#16: restart.
Mar 17 06:40:39 mythtv -- MARK --
Mar 17 07:00:39 mythtv -- MARK --
Mar 17 07:20:40 mythtv -- MARK --
Mar 17 07:40:40 mythtv -- MARK --
Mar 17 08:00:40 mythtv -- MARK --
Mar 17 08:20:41 mythtv -- MARK --
Mar 17 08:40:41 mythtv -- MARK --

I had stability problems on my setup with R5A30.2. I had the following messages in the indicated /var/log logfiles:

Quote:
kern.log:Mar 12 21:56:46 mythhd kernel: APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)
messages:Mar 13 19:53:29 mythhd kernel: hdb: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
messages:Mar 13 19:53:29 mythhd kernel: hdb: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }

I made two changes that eliminated these log messages and stabalized my system:

1. I was using hdparm to set "-u1" on both my drives. I now set them both to "-u0", ie: /sbin/hdparm -c1 -d1 -u0 /dev/hda This eliminated the "drive_cmd" messages.

2. I now boot with the "noapic" option, done by editing "/etc/lilo.conf" and adding "noapic" to the "append=" line in that file, running "lilo -v" and then rebooting. Must do this as root.

My system no longer locks up and is stable. I am also having some stability issues with the frontend and I'm testing a fix for it. If it works I'll publish what I did.

BTW, from what I have read, my issues are not unusual when using a motherboard with the SIS chipset...
