Actually, I have a couple of mutually exclusive problems, in other words, I have two problems and the solution of any one would get me going.

I have downloaded all my pictures and videos from my digital Canon A70 camera and into my mythtv box, and have placed everything into the Gallery. The pictures are *.jpg and the videos are *.avi

Then, through mythtv's frontend, I go to the Gallery and start viewing pictures, when I run into a video, the following happens:
-If I am using the default command line for mplayer, I get smooth video, but no sound.

-If I modify the default command line for mplayer and add "-ao alsa", I do get sound, but then a get choppy video...it stops and goes every second.

-If I modify the default command and replace mplayer with xine, I get smooth video with sound, but after playback, I cannot modify anything in mythfrontend's configuration screens, in other words, if for example I go into general setup, I cannot select any entry for typing...the input screen simply does not gain the focus back or my keyboard stopped working.

Any ideas, anybody? Has anybody heard of this ?

Hints, tips, or actual solution to any of the 3 problems would be very much appreciated.

This is a known issue with Xine (focus). There are a couple of ways around this. Either upgrade Xine-lib (1.1.x) and xine-ui (.99.4) or run it in an terminal window (xterm -e xine -pfhq dvd://.......). I use the later - works fine.

Yeap, running xine from within an xterm did the trick.

Thank you very much.
