I have been looking forward to R5B7 to rebuild my system. Currently with my PVR-500 I have installed r5a30.1 without having to configure anything.

With my new system, I am adding a new airstar HD5000 with the PVR500. I have held off adding the HD5000 until I could start from scratch again. From some of the posts that I am reading it looks like there may be some PVR500/150 issues?

So my question is should I go for it or wait a few more weeks for a few more bug fixes?

I have a 150 and a 500, both work. The only issue of note is that the volume on the 150 is low. This is a know problem.

I'm running R5A30.2 (manually upgraded to IVTV 0.4.3) with an MCE PVR 150. My volume seems a tad on the low side to me (have it set to 98% in my recording profiles) but it's very much something I can live with. It's not horrendously low.

Being that I've never had a different card in here, I don't know if the volume is really any lower or higher (or by how much) than other cards would offer.

Is R5B7 going to result in lower volumes than I'm seeing right now? Or should I see the same volume levels with R5B7 as with R5A30.2/0.4.3?

Since the volume isssue is an ivtv 0.4.3 thing you're already seeing it at it's "worst". ;-) My problem is that my 150 is considerably louder than my 250, but has more washed out colors, and there's currently no clean way to do per card adjustments for stuff like that in MythTV. :? Maybe I'll go file a Trac ticket...

Also FYI, see my posting in "Usage/HowTo" for how to prepare for your R5B7 upgrade: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9069

I'm running a Master Backend and two frontends on R5A30.2

If I upgrade to R5B7, will I have to upgrade all 3 machines at once? In other words, if I upgrade my backend, will my two frontends stop working because this version of Knoppmyth has the new version of MythTV?

Yes

Thanks, Xsecrets.

Damn, that's gonna be some work. I think I'm gonna hold off until R5 is released sans letters. Otherwise I'll have to send my wife away for the weekend while I do upgrades :D.

I can very consistently do one of these soup to nuts, including prep and post install setup of things like NFS and Webmin, in under 30 minutes. Give me an hour and I'm willing to try almost anything because I know that I can finish, do some crude testing and revert if it's bad in that time. Granted I've had some practice lately, ;-) but by the time you finish that 3rd machine you should be flying. 8)

Ok so it has been almost a month since my first post. I have been so busy that I havn't even had time to rebuild my system. So now one month after r5b7 what is the general sense? Is it as good as the old r5a26? Go for it or wait?

I don't like the idea how 0.19 records everything you watch on live tv. I would need to get a bigger drive to cope with this i think. For this reason I have held off for now.

You wouldnt really know it was happening though, I think live tv recordings are always the first to auto-expire, and they dont show up when viewing the default recording group in "watch recordings".

besides if you don't like the idea then you must not use livetv functionality much anyways, because everyone I know who does was constantly annoyed at being 5-10 min behind in a show when a recording comes on and you have the choice of missing the ending of your show or canceling the recording. Not so now.

I'll stand by what I said before. You should be able to do the whole thing in under an hour, and if you make a good back up as described in my hints posting, revert to the previous state of affairs just as quickly if you run into a problem.
