Post subject: | Missing Recordings..... |
I tried to upgrade to R5B7 from R5A30.2, I ran mythtvbackup before hand, I ended up having a bad CD. I put the drive in an external USB drive, and used Explore2fs to copy all of /myth on my Windows Drive. I made a new CD of R5B7 after checking the md5sum. After install I ran mythtvrestore but it didn't restore my database, I eneded up going and resetting all of my recordings and channel lineups. The only thing is I had a few files in /myth/tv I tried "/usr/local/bin/myth.rebuilddatabase.pl --try_default" but it doesn't work. What else can I try? I still have the backup from mythtvbackup. Thansk for the help. HunterMcDole |

The backup that you had in /myth/backup should still be there unless you did something silly. Go look at that directory and make sure it's there. If it is you should be able to: - Boot off of your good CD and use the "testcd" option to make sure that it really is good. - Do an auto upgrade. Everything _should_ come back. OBTW - What does this show? Code: mount | grep myth
If you see hda3 rather than hda4 that may be your problem... |

I did a autoinstall, and then copied the data from my windows bax back to /myth/tv but it can't get it to locate those file. Is there a windows program to convert the .nuv to .mpg? |

You need to learn to follow directions. tjc told you what to do. Here are the steps agian: 1) Copy back the contents of /myth/tv and /myth/backup 2) Boot off the CD and run Autoupgrade It should find the database in /myth/backup and restore all the data for your recordings. |

so your saying I should run upgrade again? Since there seems to be some miss understandings I will list the steps I have taken. 1) downloaded R5B7 2) Tried to do an auto-upgrade (Failed to load X windows) 3) Tried an auto-upgrade again (L 99 99 99 99 99 99) 4 ) did some trouble shooting found /boot had lots of 0 kb files 5) put in USB drive and copied /myth to XP box 6) downloaded R5B7 again and checked md5sum this time 7) Did an auto install 8.) copied "/myth/tv" and "/myth/backup/mythtv.tar.bz2" back to box 9) Ran mythtvrestore multiple times(no response) 10) Tried "/usr/local/bin/myth.rebuilddatabase.pl --try_default" (resulted in error) 11) Redid all recording schedules 12) came to forum to ask how to retrieve the old recordings. At this point I would like to be able to get the recordings so I can run Nuvexport and encode as a .asf file (only settings that works for me..) |

There is no misunderstanding. You must restore the entire contents of /myth/backup/ along with /myth/tv. Also perform an autoupgrade. This procedure will read the stored database from the /myth/backup directory so you can access the files in /myth/tv. If you have LILO problems (which is known to happen some times) you can either: 1) Re-autoupgrade until LILO installs correctly. or, 2) Boot off the CD. Press <ctrl><alt><f2> to access a terminal. Manually reinstall LILO if you know how. Reboot. |

Use "testcd" as a boot option. |
