Post subject: | ALSA problem on new install (R5B7) on frontend - UPDATE #2 |
Has anyone seen the following? ALSA lib simple_none.c:1216:(simple_add1) helem (MIXER,'Front Playback Volume',0,0,0) appears twice or more alsamixer: function snd_mixer_load failed: Invalid argument This (or some varient) appears when entering 'alsamixer -V all'. This is on a fresh install with a SB Live card. It was working fine under R5A22. |

UPDATE - there is a known problem with SB Live, Alsa 1.0.10 and OS 2.6.15. Seems to work on my test system with ALSA 1.0.11 but that install breaks some R5B7 features... Will continue to work on this. |

Please updated this thread when you find a solution. Links to where you found the information would also be helpful. Do you know if 2.5.16 resolves this? |

Still no resolution yet. This has apparently been an issue since 2.6.13. See the ALSA link below - the fix is in 1.0.11. http://www.uwsg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/ ... /0245.html http://www.alsa-project.org/changes/v1- ... -11rc3.txt |

Good news is that I have finally gotten this fixed. This is specific for users of SB Live 5.1 cards on R5B7. I have to say that you should do this at your own risk - there are a few minor pitfalls but it does work. Go to http://www.alsa-project.org/ and download 1.0.11rc4 driver, library, and utilities. I could not get rc2 or rc3 to work... Then go to http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/do ... le=emu10k1 and follow the instructions. WARNING - note the instructions in red - do not run the ./snddevices script. You may see an error when you run modprobe snd-emu10k1;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss. If you do, reboot the system, ignore the eror messages and run it again. Then run alsaconf and continue. I have tested this on two machines - works fine for me. Good luck |
