Post subject: | Xine question - SOLVED |
I must be having a brain cramp. I had this working under R5A22. I am trying to play a .iso video file (ripped into myht/video) by using the standard 'xine -pfhq --no-splash dvd:/%s' in the video manager 'unique player command' window. I get the infamous 'There is no plugin available to handle 'dvd://myth/video....'. This is on a standard R5B7 build... I have run the xine-check' - all is 'good'. I can play the file fine from a Windows machine. What am I missing? |

I see this too, so I just re-ripped to the .vob format. This is all that was available before - the .iso is a new feature, IIRC. So that's probably what's different for you. i.e. you were ripping .vob before, not you're ripping .iso and it doesn't know how to play it. Should it be able to play .iso? I don't know. |

I don't really have time to search, but I now the settings for playing .iso's is on the forum somewhere from a long time ago before myth even thought about ripping iso's. |

Hmmm - well I can't get any videos to play from the gui (.iso or .vob) using xine - same error... They will play fine from the command line. Both .iso and .vob file types are on in the video setup. Has anybody gotten it working? |

Well I learned something - apparently xine does not like iso images that do not have certain components. I created the iso's on a Windows machine but, in order to save space, eliminated some of the extra DVD stuff (alternate languages, trailers, etc). If I create an exact image, this works. Strange... |

The post quoted above may imply it is impossible to do what I'm trying to do. Still, here is my question, in case someone has a solution: I can not play any ISO that has been imported into a /myth/video subdirectory. Here are some points: 1) I've made the necessary changes to the video "player settings" and the "file extensions" settings to play those ISOs that I ripped via MythTV. This works fine to play those particular ISO files in the original /myth/video directory. 2) However, all of the ISO's that I ripped & moved from windows to my Myth box give me an error, as xine trys to play. These videos are located in a myth/video/dvdbackup directory. Two errors pop up each time. One error suggests the permissions could be wrong. Another error suggests I lack a plugin. However, I performed the chown command so myth has ownership of the directory & files. Also, these are NOT images of encrypted dvds. All of these ISO's were created after removing the extra dvd features, languages, etc. Question: Are there any suggestions, regarding why these imported ISO files do not play in xine? Note: As an experiment, I made a dvd from one of these ISO files using Nero on windows. Then, I inserted the dvd into Myth & ripped it as a new ISO. Xine could play the resulting .ISO files perfectly. This seems to disagree with the notion that a stripped-down dvd (removed special features, etc) causes problems with XINE. My "Player Settings" look like this: Code: xine -pfhq --no-splash %s My iso file extension command looks like this: Code: xine -pfhq --no-splash dvd://%s

ihatetivo, My issues have been fixed - my original problem was with an older version of Xine.... Currently I am on R5D1 and I rip on a Windows machine (using DVDFab or DVD Decryptor) and move the ISO to my myth server - all works fine. I also seem to remember that Nero rip (to an ISO image) resulted in problems for me. Try something else... I am traveling for several days and cant get to my machine to give you the specific setups. Will reply on Tuesday. |

I do want to clarify a few points: * The original source DVDs are home movies * My ISO's were created by DVDShrink on a Windows PC * The files were transferred via external USB hard drive from the PC to the Myth box * I am using R5D1 * As a further experiment, I tried to play one of the problem ISO files from the command line. Here is the resulting error: "xine engine error- there is no demuxer plugin available to handle "SPRING_BREAK_2005.ISO". Usually means that the file format was not recognized" |
