Has anyone succesfully gotten the internal dvd player for myth 0.19 working in Knoppmyth R5B7? I've fiddled with every setting I can think of and all it ever does is spin up and access the dvd-drive briefly, go to a black screen and then myth-frontend locks up completely and has to be killed. No error messages seem to come up, it successfully scans the tracks and chapters with libdvdcss but then just hangs when it starts to play one. This happens with all the commerical and mythburn dvds I've tried.

Not really a big deal, (xine's better than *any* standalone dvd player) just wanted to know about others' experiences.

I gave up on it pretty quickly.

I never even tried it. Once it gets nav support I'll probably look at it.

Am I imagining things or did this message board change a certain word I wrote to 'pineapple'?

no you are not imagining. certain words can wind up in very expensive lawsuits and pineapple cannot.

From my attempt to gather all Cecil's forums rules in one place:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7919
Quote:
- Do not post anything wihich violates US laws or which may get Cecil sued. This is mainly a matter of keeping the media companies' rabid lawyers from using the DMCA to kill the forums or wreck Cecil's life.

From another discussion of DVDs
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... ght=lawyer
Quote:
As for DVD playback, your problem maybe related to the fact that KnoppMyth doesn't support playing encrypted DVDs (most commercial DVDs are encrypted with something called the CSS) due to an evil little US law known as the DMCA that makes it illegal. As a result of justifiable concerns about some media lawyer making his life miserable Cecil has asked that we not discuss that topic beyond this point in the forums.

A word to the wise...

Have a go at this - Initially, I had no end of problems. They are all resolved now.

DVD Playback using Xine:

DVD Playback command: xine -pfhq --auto-scan dvd

Thanks for the reply, but actually I was inquiring about the new built-in dvd player in mythtv 0.19, it being a possible replacement for launching an external program like xine or mplayer. For anyone who cares, I've since gotten the internal dvd player running in the svn version of mythtv 0.20, but it crashes occasionally and the playback is strangely jerky with some playback settings that work fine with livetv. It has potential, but for now I'm sticking with xine.
