And the answer is "The more you polish it gets."

Nonsensical? You bet, but slightly less so than a question without enough details for anyone to answer. If you want a meaningful answer you'll need to provide at least basic details to make it a meaningful question. Stuff like; what version of KnoppMyth you're talking about, what hardware you have (motherboard, type of capture card, ...), whether you're talking about SDTV or HDTV, what settings you're using, and so on.

have vfd display connected (working)
pvr 350 (tv out not used)
sdtv

You know what..... I have to agree with this guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He nicely asks a simple question so that he can better illustrate his problem and typical KnoppMyth Forum fashion he gets pounded in the forehead with a baseball bat.... I am a long time reader but scared to death to ask a question because of the omnipotent arrogance of "bat patrol" here.
I agree that many times people post incomplete or unanswerable questions. But does that mean everyone deserves a Louisville Slugger to the forehead?

I have never participated in a forum who treats its members in such a fashion.

I wont be back. Not that you care, I am sure there are plent of fresh mellon heads to swing at!

Well having spent a lot of time responding to the same questions over and over and writing wiki pages and posting links to them over and over, and still having people ask the same questions over and over, because they didn't bother to do a little basic reasearch, is a sure path to a short fuse.

Searching the wiki for "logfile" or "log file" and these pages come up at the top of the list:

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=TroubleShooting

Searching the forums for logfile and they come up in 2 out of the first 4 threads.

Almost every vague undetailed question asked here gets the same response. 1) Provide more details. 2) Search the forums before you ask an FAQ. 15 minutes of reading the forums should make this obvious to anyone. It's a very short deductive step from there to avoiding it, by searching the forums and the wiki before posting, and then asking a good detailed question when you do post.

Now, tell me again why I shouldn't find this frustrating, and let people know that a little more effort on their part would make things go a lot more smoothly?

As for being a goon squad, ... I think you're misreading cultural differences. We're a blunt lot, and call it like we see it, mostly because we're busy folks and don't have time to dance around. Don't take it personally. Do however take the lesson. http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Finally this REALLY is not intended as a flame. It's a serious attempt to get past the shock of "you were mean to me!" and drive this point home. Get over it. There was no malice or personal animosity behind it. It wasn't done to be cruel. It was done in a tutorial spirit, like the meditatation proctor rapping you with his stick when you start to fall asleep, or the drill instructor telling you to get you a** down before someone shoots it off.

Hmmm... The "Parser not found for Codec Id: 94210 !" error *seems* to be harmless. I've got that in my logs too. I'm more concerned about the "Invalid file" errors in the "RingBuf" handling, but even that's not a big deal if it eventually catches up (the reader is essentially stalled waiting for the writer to flush it's buffers).

You probably need to be looking in the frontend logs since that's what is crashing.

Don't participate in many forums do you? I can assure you I've seen much much worse. you think we're bad just go over to any debian mailing list/irc/forum and ask anything intelligible or not.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I am seeing the same sort of things,
I am seeing a lot of Invalid File errors as well in .xsession-errors eg:

I am running a P4 2.4 HT with a 250GB SATA for storage. Standard def only but I have an Avermedia DVB-T 777 (Hi Def card) used on standard def channels as well as a Avermedia DVB-T 771.

I am also getting a lot more crashes than previous versions, I am currently running r5b7.

the .xsession log is the only one showing anything intresting.

Just adding info in case it helps.

regards

Lee McLaren

That's about it. What you can try is exiting the frontend, opening an xterm, and running mythfrontend from there. Hang on while I look to see if there's a verbose mode... Oh wow, and how. I'd forgotten that it had that many options... I'd start with:
Code:
mythfrontend -v all

If that's too overwhelming do:
Code:
mythfrontend -v help 2>&1 | more

to see what the options are and pick ones that look appropriate.

ok well each time it dies with a segfault, also when watching tv there are contiunous errors,
qsocketnotifier: Multiple socket notifers for same socket 10 and trype write
and
rebuffering errors
if i skip back a few seconds the rebuffering errors goes away but the socket 10 error thing remains. I am running verbose setting with important and general displayed
