Hi all,

Just upgraded to R5B7 and for me its been a bit of a disaster, the new version is good the fact it dosn't crash when editing recordings which flip between 4:3 and 16:9 is nice. The dvb-t search just by entering country name etc. etc..

I have a couple of problems with the latest version, whilst watching live tv the system will come up with an error message saying something to the effect of ' a problem has occurd press any key to go to main menu.' . This may be my fault I upgraded nvidia drivers and video dosnt seem as stable since.

The biggest problem I have is with mythburn :( . Firstly I used myth webburn I had a lot or recordings on my box i hadnt written to disk, mainly because a lot of them crashed the box when trying to edit them.

After loading R5B7 mythwebburn fails with the usual permisions error about being unable to write to the dvd rom. I can fix this easily, the problem I have may be just a unique problem to uk DVB-T recordings or just BBC1 I havent gone through all the perms yet. The problem I get is the wrong audio track is being recorded, I recorded for episodes of a program off bbc1 onlt to find the audio track included on the disk was the 'description track' for the blind, and the english sound track had not been recorded. :? . most frustrating !!! Also it dosnt seem to matter if i select use cut list or not it never uses the cutlist !! I did notice though 'nocut' is always passed in the command line.

I then went on to try mythburn ui with no success i got an error message saying it coudnt find the script so pointed it to /myth/mythburn which got it at least to start. I then selected a couple of my old recording hit the go button only to be told the files cannot be found by the looks of it it was looking for the new ....mpg files not the old ....nuv. I havent got any new recordings yet to try. I will let everyone know my findings.

All my recordings are dvb-t mpeg2-ts recordings UK region if anyone has any ideas.

Simon F

Hi all,

I have done a bit of looking into this and examined the logs on my old Pre r5b7 bbc1 recordings project x is detecting the streams as follows. When it outputs them as mp2 files it uses the [c1] stream as filename.mp2 and the [c0] as filename[1].mp2

Code:

When mplex remultiplexes the streams it only uses the first audio stream, which is the wrong stream. on the only new recordind i have the srteams are listed in the other order ie c0 then c1 the resulting DVD has the the correct audio. This may be a unique problem to me i am not sure i will have to use project x and windows to make dvds out of my old recordings for now and see how things go with the new recordings.

PS with regards to dropping out of live tv my beta tester 'The Girlfriend' says it drops out as one program ends and another begins. I assume this is going to be a feature of 0.19 as effectively each program is recorded as a seperate item ???

Hi Simon,
I've been using mythburn under 0.19 for a little while now and haven't generally had that problem with the sound.
I use only UK DVB-T, so that may not be the problem.

However, I have found that using the new lossless mpeg2 transcoding on the files beforehand does cause silent DVDs, and I'm fairly sure it's because the wrong soundtrack gets fed to mplex after the projectX phase. The recordings themselves do seem to vary in their audio content(and order, it would seem), even apparantly on the same tv series on the same channel. Maybe they vary it according to available bandwidth at the time, I don't really know ?

I will take a further look at it at somepoint, but I've just got a new 300G drive so no longer have such a sense of urgency in regard of archiving, plus I'm a bit busy with a couple of other things just now. I'd expect that what it would need would be to determine the largest sound file and assume that was the best one to use, but maybe there's a smarter way.
I'll post back if I find any sort of solution.

Jim.

That pretty well ties up with what I've found, Simon.
The transcoding thing might well just be a red herring and I've not done any controlled tests to really know what's up with it. Maybe it was just rearranging the audio such that projectX demuxes them in a different order and as a result I'm seeing the same thing as yourself.
Still, I'd never really had a problem with it before, maybe I was just lucky in what I've been recording.
Jim.

[mythwebfolder] /modules/mythburn/
[mythwebfolder] /themes/default/mythburn/
mainly, as I remember.
They really changed the structure of mythweb in the latest release!
I did some work on the web interface a few weeks ago that paulH put into the cvs on sourceforge, I'm not sure if that went onto the new knopmyth beta disk or not.
It would be easy to tell, my change largely involved copying the standard mythweb recorded programs page and adding some "burn DVD" checkboxes to each listing, so you get the same search and ordering facillities as you do on the recorded programs one.

I'm having a similar problem, as a new user of KnoppMyth.

I'm finding there's no audio on the resultant DVD or the files it's created, and it seems to be related as the filename[1].mp2 file contains the audio for the program, but it's not the file used when re-multiplexing.

Can anyone help by pointing me to the bit of script that chooses this (as a non-programming newbie type!) so I can edit it accordingly to use the right file (or change the filenames when they are originally created)?

Thanks,

Andy.

Yes - The problem is ProjectX is out of date. You need to get an updated one or, preferably, compile one for yourself.

I used my Linux workstation to do this. I started by upgrading Java to the latest on both my myth box and my workstation (the Azureus install HOWTO has a great section on installing Java on a Debian box which is the grandfather core of Knoppymyth). I then downloaded the source code for Project X and compiled it locally and copied the resulting ProjectX.jar over to the myth box.

I have another issue, however, to add to the Mythburn thread. I can now pop in a blank DVD-R, select the shows I want and walk away until the DVD is complete and ejects. When I put the new DVD into either a standalone DVD player or a computer with a DVD drive I get the menu (complete with animated clips for each show selection) and opening music, but the individual shows are unplayable.

Any help?

ok I upgraded projectx to the latest version and it seems to work when I run it in the command line "projectx" (as in it displays the new version). But when I try to run MythBurn, it still says it is using the old version. I put the new jar file in /usr/share/projectx do I have to put it somewhere else or point mythburn to the right directory? I did change mythburn.conf to the directory witht he jar file

Don't change the .conf.

The executable projectx is just a script

Code:
mythtv@mythtv1:~$ whereis projectx
projectx: /usr/bin/projectx /usr/share/projectx
mythtv@mythtv1:~$ cat /usr/bin/projectx
#!/bin/bash
java -jar /usr/share/projectx/ProjectX.jar $@

Let the script run the jar.

ok I changed the conf back to what it was and it is still running the old version of projectX. I don't understand. When I type projectx in the command line I get the updated version, but when I let mythburn run projectx it runs the old version

hi drewCS,
I think you may be on the wrong track here,
the message

Loading Basic Classes...
Xlib: connection to ":33.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

refers to the fact that project X wants an X environment to run in (well, something like that). The script attempts to create one, but as far as I remember it's not especially vocal if it fails to.

You can fix it by telling java to run in "headless mode", EG

java -Djava.awt.headless=true -jar /usr/share/projectx/ProjectX.jar

in your /usr/bin/ProjectX script, if that is what you are running.

the trick being the option : -Djava.awt.headless=true

Hope that helps,

Jim.

It is still won't connect to the X server. this is what my projectX script now looks like.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
java -Djava.awt.headless=true -jar /usr/share/projectx/ProjectX.jar $@

Did you upgrade Java as well as ProjectX?

I have it working fully now (I had to turn off the option to create sub-menus for each menu item) and never once touched /usr/bin/projectx
