I've noticed that compared to RA30, R5B7 using the "internal" player, will not play some Xvid movies.

They all play OK on RA30, but any movies I have that are encoded in Xvid (using vidomi on windows) won't play in the mythtv internal player, but will in Xine.??

What's the go with that? I've tried installing avifile-xvid and divx, but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Bj

Could it possibly be a MythTV issue (0.19 vs 0.18)? Prior to 0.19, I never tried the internal player. If you have a specific question, then I'd suggest trying the MythTV mailing list.

Well I gather that Mythtv Internal doesn't use the same general codecs available to the operating system like Xine does.

The reason I don't use Xine is because it looses focus (when using a remote) when it feels like it, especially on a machine that is a frontend only. Ive tried the xterm -e trick and the "click in screen" but they all break at a random point when you least expect it.

Mplayer can't play xvid and divx over a wireless link smoothly (the TV works ok though), as it requires way more bandwidth than xine to cache up, so that is why I like the idea of an Internal Player, which fixes these problems.

I can't seem to find much documentation on the Internal Player, is there a good site for this other than mythtv.org?

I guess the question here is how can I find out if it is a Mythtv thing, or a Knoppix thing that is not sharing codecs?

First off, it isn't Knoppix. It is KnoppMyth. Second, I'd told you where to ask if you have specify questions. That is the best place to ask.
