play with the overscan settings either in XF86Config-4 or nvidia-settings or nvtv.

The answers to this question may depend on what your hardware is.

While I may not be able to provide a quick answer, there are others who help out here who know a lot more than I do about this.

Without even knowing what you are running for a video card, all we could do is guess and possibly waste your time trying things that don't work.

Here's a sample:
P4 3.0GHz
AsusP4P800
PCI MX4000 svideo out
SBLive Xgamer
160GB IDE

It really doesn't hurt to provide extra info since the little stuff may be more important that it might seem. For example, I see stuttering in the video every once in a while. I know it's due to the HD being a little slow and having a small buffer. Things went much more smoothly when I had a faster 80GB drive in there, but I just kept running out of space.

Hi,

Not being able to see the line of "noise", I would venture a guess that you may be mistaking it for the line 21 close captioning data. Most older crt type tv's have more than enough overscan that hides that information and a few more lines also.
