Post subject:  Configure Knoppmyth for ExpressVU

Could someone tell me how to set up knoppmyth to receive Bell ExpressVU or provide me with a link. I have everything configured, but I am unable to get a picture on any of the channels. It may be that I have the channel frequency set wrong - us-cable. I am using a Hauppage PVR-150 with remote to capture the stream. I have searched the forums and google, but I haven't found an answer to my situation. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Also, I am a newby to linux but I am having a great time running Ubuntu.

Hi,

Make sure you've set up Myth to use the S-Video off your PVR-150 as the 'input'. Sounds like you may not have completely configured things.

Hi Greg

Are you saying that I need an S-Video cable into my capture card instead of coax? Presently, I am using my lcd monitor for viewing until I can get things up and working.

Well, I don't own a PVR-150 (using a 350 here), but I would suspect you *could* output via RF (coax) from the Expressview receiver to your PVR-150. You'd have to tune your card to channel 3 or 4 to match the output configured on the receiver itself. After this, you'd still need to setup an IR blaster (search recent posts here) to change channels.

That being said, RF is going to give you a much worse signal than connecting the S-video cable from your receiver to your pvr-150.

The following pages might point you in the right direction:

http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-23.html#ss23.27
http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=IRBlasterHowTo
http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=ConnectToDigitalBox

I don't have a sat box setup myself but I am pretty sure you need to set Mythtv up so that it will talk to your ExpressVU box (via the PVR-150 IR Blaster for example, if you have that model) to be able to control the channel input. Mythtv needs to control the tuner in your sat box, not your PVR-150 card. When you have this kind of setup, you don't really need a tuner card in your Mythtv box, you only need a video in (RCA, S-Video, etc.) adapter which is why Greg says to make sure your are using the S-Video input on your PVR-150.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the help. I will try that and see if it resolves the problem. I will keep posting to let both of you know how I made out.

I have one up and running with a PVR-350. I'm a linux and mythtv newbie. i have the BEV 6120 and only recently turned on the S-Video out on the PVR-350. Before I ran it to my LCD monitor with no problems. Just make sure you configure all the inputs etc. and it should work.
