After knoppmyth has been running for a while (not sure exactly how long, but about a week), it will sometimes stop getting any reception. Nothing will record, and when I run azap to check the signal strength, it gives me the following identical line every time for every channel:
status 00 | signal f477 | snr ffff | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 |

When I reboot, it seems to fix itself. Does anyone know what might be wrong, or a way I can fix it? If nothing else, please tell me how to have Knoppmyth automatically reboot each night as a stopgap solution, so I can stop missing recordings without having to remember to reboot it myself all the time.

I'm running R5A26 on a Dragon-like system (combined front/backend, single pcHDTV HD-3000 card)

Thanks for any help.

I'd say the first thing to check is

/var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log

It's kinda odd that it stops working after a while

Are you have any problems with Signal Reception in general?

Is the PCHDTV HD-3000 card getting too HOT to touch?

By the way I think this post probably belongs in the DTV forum

You might want to check to see if there's newer firmware than what you're using...

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

>>Are you have any problems with Signal Reception in general?

Only on one channel, but this problem (when it starts) affects all channels. I'll pay attention to the channel with bad reception, to see if its recording times are related to when it stops working.

>>Is the PCHDTV HD-3000 card getting too HOT to touch?

I powered down and opened the case. The capture card was warm and the video card's heatsink was pretty hot (although I could touch both without problem). Just in case, I turned on the extra case fans that the Dragon setup guide recommends you leave off for noise reasons. I can definitely notice more airflow now than with just the PSU and CPU fans, so I'll leave it up for a while and see if the problem stops.

I'll look into that. It's probably a decent idea even if it doesn't directly affect my problem. Is there a tutorial anywhere for updating firmware? I know the basics of compilng and kernel modules, but pretty much *nothing* that's specific to tv capture cards.

Modern kernels you mostly put the firmware in the hotplug directory...
