Any shows that you transcode to a diferent format from mpeg will be stored as .nuv's. Also any recordings from before you upgrade will still be stored as .nuv's.

Most likely dummies to satisfy something that still thinks all the videos are stored as NUV files... We had an issue a while back with some of them not getting cleaned up...

Does "had an issue a while back" mean that it's supposed to have been fixed? Or does it just mean that somebody noticed the problem a while back.

I just upgrade a little over a day ago, and I've already got a bunch of orphaned "dummy" .nuv files. The files just contain a string that says

"Creating dummy file for <show title>".

The problem is that the "dummy" .nuv files don't get deleted when the show is deleted, so they just continue to accumulate.

I found it. After upgrading to R5B7, it looks like somebody somewhere decided that running /usr/local/bin/mythlink.sh was a good idea. That script is creating the bogus .nuv files.

Adding an "exit" command at the top of mythlink.sh prevents the dummy files from being created.

Then all you have to do is delete /myth/pretty and the bogus .nuv files by hand.

I've posted a script called cleanup_orphans.sh which helps takes care of the issue. I believe it was tracked to something that the /usr/local/bin/mythlink.sh script was doing, although I never confirmed that personally. Here is the thread with the script: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9511&highlight=cleanup_orphans

OBTW - The script can now be considered well tested so you don't need to worry about the warnings in that thread.

Thanks. Yes, it was mythlink.sh. I found the line in mythlink.sh that was creating the dummy files with that exact same string. Since those files were created at the same times as the links in /myth/pretty, that pretty much proves it was mythlink.sh that created the bogus "dummy" files.

I just deleted the most recent N *.nuv files by hand, and then short-circuited mythlink.sh so it doesn't do anything at all now. I didn't particularly want all of the /myth/pretty links either.
