# Video type: SDTV # Type of system: combined front- and back-end # Noise level: In between "I can tell it's on until I play some media" & "I had to put it in my closet because it was too loud" # CASE: Linkworld 6280-01 Black body/ Silver strip Steel MicroATX Mini tower/ Desktop Computer Case 400W Power Supply - Retail - 34.99 (www.newegg.com) # PSU: Stock 400W # MOTHERBOARD: ASUS M2NPV-VM AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail - (www.mwave.com) # CPU: Sempron 64 3400+ Manila - 39.99 (www.newegg.com) # RAM: G.SKILL 512MB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5S-512NQ - Retail - 29.99 (www.newegg.com) # CPU HEATSINK: stock (with cpu) # NORTHBRIDGE HEATSINK: stock (with motherboard) # CD/DVD-RW: Pioneer DVD±R DVD Burner Black E-IDE/ATAPI Model DVR-111D - OEM - 29.99 (purchased from newegg long ago) # HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM - 74.50 (www.pricegrabber.com) # GRAPHICS CARD: on motherboard, using S-Video Output # SOUNDCARD: on motherboard # TUNER CARD: Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 500 MCE White box PCI Interface Personal Video Recorder - Retail - 125.00 (www.mwave.com) # REMOTE CONTROL: Streamzap PC Remote Control - 29.99 (www.amazon.com) Total cost: $475.83 shipped Using the proper Ultra DMA cable for the DVD drive, everything worked right away. I think that I was even able to use the streamzap during part of the setup. I'm happy so far except for the volume. I belive the main source of sound is coming from the 2 60 mm case fans, so I will hopefully replace them soon. I had actually purchased a DVR-112D from newegg, but I swapped it with the DVR-111D I had in my desktop because I had problems reading from it. Turns out I was using the wrong cable. The one marked "CD-ROM cable" is the wrong cable to use. You want to use the "HDD Cable". Hopefully this is useful BTW: I plan on writing my step-by-step "tutorial" with hardware photos soon, so if you have further questions, look for it |

What kinds of desktop memory kits (or simply desktop memory chips) have you used? |

Sorry for the lack of response. The one listed in my original post is what I used for SD only. When I upgraded to HD I replaced it with this: Patriot 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model PSD21G8002 - Retail - 11.99 (Newegg) At the same time I upgraded the processor to: AMD Athlon X2 BE-2350 Brisbane 2.1GHz Socket AM2 45W Dual-Core Processor Model ADH2350IAA5DO - OEM - 37.99 (Newegg) |
