Post subject:  Acer RevoAspire R1600 - Frontend

Finally Decided to add a Frontend to my existing FE/BE Systembased on the awesome Acer AspireRevo

HDD: 160 GB SATA

StreamZap IR Reciever + Harmony One Remote
Audio over HDMI

I based my install off mount'n_goat's Tier 1 Revo 3610 FE setup

Initial install was a bit shaky due to a bad LinHES disk burn Frontend Only Install/Setup. Better yet, 3 bad burns. I have since replaced that burner. I attached an internal DVD/CD Rom via usb, and was able to install after a weekend of fighting with bad disks. Once I changed the IP address on the FE/BE system, updated the new FE system things just seemed to work.

As of right now I have not tested HD playback, but have tested Video out via HDMI, and Audio out via HDMI. Both work like a champ. I just need to tweak the xorg.conf, and turn on VDPAU.

I was able to turn on Webmin (easier for me to tweak settings via the File Manager section), but have not been successful with x11vnc. Install works, changed the port, but now I have to tweak my Router to forward the correct ports to the FE.

I would recommend upgrading the factory ram from 1GB to 2GB. This allows for video memory to be upgraded to 512mb in the bios. Acer Aspire Revo: How to Take Apart

Once installed I will post photos. I am also working on a wiki page for my setup of MythTV on the Revo. It will cover all the modifications/tweaks that were required for my FE. Still a few things to work on, but once mounted behind my Sharp Aquas it will be a very nice, quiet, HD Frontend Machine.
