Dell Precision 370. I've seen these on ebay selling for 110 shipped with a better CPU than I have. Drop in an 8400GS and you're good. The onboard sound did not have s/pdif so I also added a Turtle Beach Riviera sound card, but the onboard works just fine if you only need stereo output.

Most importantly: I didn't have to do anything (other than basic alsa mixer settings for the volume) to get everything up and running.

Thanks to vdpau, this machine is capable of satisfying all our needs. We generally only watch mpeg2 TV recordings (ATSC and DVB-S) and xvid videos. Haven't tried watching Blu-Ray discs on the machine because we have a standalone player for that purpose. While watching a 1080i ATSC channel with BOB deinterlacer, the mythfrontend CPU usage is anywhere from 9% to 20%.

I do not like the looks of this machine; however, I simply hid the tower behind the TV stand out of sight. I don't have to access the DVD drive since we use the BD player for that.

I was just wondering if you have problems with playback of online content with this hardware? I have a Dell Optiplex 270 with the Pentium 4 @ 2.8 GHz (512MB ram). And I am watching on a 32" Samsung LCD (1360x768) and have a 9500GT nvidia card.

My main problem is that I get a lot of "flickering" on flash video (using flash 10.1). If I close the frontend, and open firefox to go to Hulu and watch, this is when I notice the problem. This is even at the "low" quality setting (on hulu).

I have also installed the "huludeskto" package which integrates into Myth, and i also experience the problem there.

Until Flash gets GPU decoding for Linux, I think we will see it flicker.
