Works "out the box" with R4, remote and all! If you have difficulties, change the PCI slot the card is in.

what about the pvr-350 with tv-out? Is there anything extra that I need to do to get it to work?

As I don't have a 350, I cannot verify that it will work out the box. Please take a look at this thread:

You'll need to edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file, whichever file sets the output type, and check the box for using the pvr350 hardware for playback in the mythtv options. you'll also need to find whichever line of the /home/mythtv/.fvwm/.fvwmrc file sets the sound levels because they don't apply to the pvr350 playback. (it mutes line in)

The 250s are hard to find right now. I have heard a rumour that they have been discontinued and replaced by the 150.

I just bought a used one on eBay. I couldn't find a new one anywhere.

Huhn? A quick check at pricegrabber shows at least 5 sites with them, and froogle shows 279 (not necessarily unique) matches including buy.com (in stock). Lots of other places show a 1-2 week back order but not "discontinued". My guess would be that Hauppauge just can't make 'em fast enough to keep up with the demand.

As I said, a rumour, so you may be right. They have become suddenly unavailable in my area and a quick google search turned up several references (possibly no more than rumours) that they have been discontinued and replaced by the 150.

The only difference I could find between the cards is that the 250 has hardware video CD encoder. To quote their web page about the 150 "New low cost design. Same video quality as the WinTV-PVR-250 at a lower cost." Hmmmm...

What is really insteresting is that when I looked this morning, the German Hauppauge link to the PVR-150 spec sheet brings up the 250 spec sheet.

On the plus side, Hauppauge has acknowledged the value of the PVR250s linux support. From the notes on the 250 at:

http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/compare_pvr.html

"Supports MCE 2004 plus third party apps such as MythTV, BeyondTV, SageTV and more."

Sorry I didn't catch the location the first time... At least in the U.S. the Hauppauge website still shows them as a current product:

And it still appears on the German site. As I said, only rumour. However, I do have to wonder how long they will continue to manufacture two almost identical cards.

I think it would be a good thing if they change the number as there are so many versions of the 250 that I was reluctant to buy new. I didn't want to get home and open the box to find out I had a REV1 from old stock that runs hot.

I'll shut up now as I don't want to give a rumour more credibility than it deserves. Anyway, my 250 arrived last night, so I'm going to be setting it up this weekend.

Hey Rev1 may run hot, but none of these problems about trying to figure out what tuner to use etc. just stick it in and enjoy it.

Uhhhmmmm.... I seemed to have missed that problem in my searches. Do you have a reference? I thought REV1-3 were pretty much identical from a setup point of view (note I do not have a card with an FM tuner or an MCE).

If you haven't guessed, I plugged it in, but am not enjoying it yet.... I have yet to rule out operator stupidity though.

Cheers,

Allen

the difference is that they keep changing the tuner, and many of them require a newer verison of ivtv than ships with knoppmyth, and then you have to go and figure out which tuner it is which can be a royal pain. is it 39 44 67 or whatever else the other 10 options are.
