Hardware:
shuttle xpc sk43g (newegg refurb $150 shipped - These small boxes are awsome IMHO. Its my first one)
amd XP2000+ (old chip)
512 kingstong ram (bought from friend $40)
evga geforce w/ tvout (newegg $30)
svideo to composite converter (ebay) ($5)
lite-on wireless keyboard with built in mouse (had old one...works FANTASTIC)
IR blaster ($15)
NEC DVD writer ($40 newegg)
pvr 250 (ebay $90)

Cost Estimate: 150 + 40 + 30 + 5 + 15 + 40 + 90 = $370

I thought it was as easy as following instructions....NOT TRUE

Took me a couple of days and a LOT of searching and reading.

Shuttle xpc is pretty small so it was tough to get all the hardware in. Install went without a hitch. Mythsetup was pretty straightforward except for setting up XMLTV. Had to search where to go to signup. Was able to watch tv fully using keyboard as controller. Tried the remote and it didn't work by itself (grey one) did some reading and i found that lirc just needed to be started at boot time. After that, the remote worked fine. Next was setting up IR Blaster. Followed a guide in one of the forums. Everything went fine except the change channel script was not fully functional. Fixed it by omitting a line and it worked fine. I am Dish Network by the way.

Other things I got working:
MythWeather
MythWeb
MythNews
DVDRips (one liner to get this working)

Problems:
1. I have TV out working but the left and right side are cut offf a little. Also, the words on the tv are too small. I need to figure out how to change resolution.

2. DVD playback does not. I've read I have to download some codecs and i nstall them.

3. Have not tried dvd burning

4. have not tried encoding into new formats

5. Have not tried game emulator

For the image size issue the search terms you need are "overscan" and "nvidia-settings", for the font size problem the term is "DisplaySize" (it's a keyword for your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file). Don't forget to check the Wiki! http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/
