Thanks to this thread and the wiki entry I have most things working with the MN2PV-VM motherboard using component.

I'm having trouble playing 1080i recordings though. Just black screen and the system is rather hosed. Old SD recordings and 720p HD recordings play fine. My old TV can only do component 1080i so I have to have X in that mode.

I have the latest nvidia 9xxx driver installed but I was wondering if they have a bug.

Do you think changing the video memory frame buffer in the bios would help? I'm not sure what it defaults to as I have not checked the value yet.

I have 512m memory in the box and it is a FE only booting over the network. Could it need more memory? I didn't realize when I bought it last week that the video memory is taken from the system memory.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'll change the video memory tonight and report back on any findings. Thanks.

On my M2NPV-VM alsactl always hangs - don't matter if I'm root or user - so I have no chance to save the settings.
KnoppMyth R5E50 (Alsa 1.0.13)

Any ideas?

I think my /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf is a bit too big to post it here.

I will solve the problem executing this command on startup:
Code:
amixer cset name='Front Playback Volume' 23 P

FYI, I needed to do this on R5D1 to get my sound to work on boot:
in /home/mythtv/.fluxbox/apps:

Code:
[startup] {/usr/sbin/alsactl restore -f /home/mythtv/.alsasettings}

I needed the full path, unlike what's been posted earlier...

Sorry for the long delay. Just finally found the paper work that I had my note one. Don't know if you have your sound working or not but this is what I did.

I got my sound working by making my /etc/modprobe.d/sound file look like this:
Code:
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel index=0

Then I created the /etc/modeprobe.d/alsa-fix file containing the line:
Code:
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=3stack

Don't know if both were needed but my sound works like a champ.

Just an update since it has been over a year. I have finally gotten my remote setup. Ended up buying a Streamzap from Amazon.com. Worked first try. Now everything is set up, minus my custom theme.

Technically speaking I think my system is a Tier 1 machine now with the release of R5F27 and the remote. All I have to do is pack everything into the case nice and clean and maybe deaden the sound a bit then things are golden.

I would recommend the Streamzap remote to anyone looking for an easy to setup remote. Yes it costs a couple of buck but it is better the messing around the your system for a year trying to make something work.

I have the same MB as you, and with the latest SVN increasing the frame buffer to 64M made a night and day difference in performance. If you haven't tried it, its a pretty painless test.
