Shiny single MythTV box to sit under the TV, mostly easy, a few tiny edits and compiles and a couple of remaining small issues. I've only been using MythTV and KnoppMyth for about 1 month, but Linux for many years:

:!: The case is quite nice, it claims you can fit 2 x PCI and 1 x PCI-E card on the riser, but in reality you can only fit one of each, so this is a little limiting. I will have to look at USB devices for future expansion. Picture of TV card and graphics card installed showing clearance: http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/5808/allriserssideclearancedd2.jpg and the box running with the VFD working: http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/821/dsc01778zy2.jpg

:D The machine is DAMN quick, as you'd expect!

:D Using R5E50, installed cleanly on the SATA disk.

:!: After first reboot, X would not load, and left a non-flashing cursor in the top left of the screen, easily solved: http://wiki.knoppmyth.net/index.php?page=BlackScreenAfterInstall

:!: No network! Installed Attansic L1 drivers. Could not get specific new driver for 2.6.18 so found an old (1.0.41.0) kernel version non-specific driver here: http://atl1.sourceforge.net/ ... obtained and built the kernel sources as per this thread: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... highlight= I specifically used option #2 from here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 2567#82567 then follow the directions in the atl1 driver source and it worked as described. The problem then this combo and version of driver results in the network card being limited at about 60-70 kbytes. Enough to get simple stuff done, but a major problem if you want to run a remote frontend. (EDIT use this page and read the notice about turning off TSO: http://www.hogchain.net/attansic/attansic.html - network all good!)

:D I use an IceTV subscription and the script they supply to setup the channels and obtain my TV guides: http://www.icetv.com.au/

:D Audio appears to work, but it is very quiet and pumping everything up with alsamixer makes little difference. The volume controls within Myth have no effect. All the sound options are missing from the MythTV config screens also but sound is audible while watching TV and is also recorded and works the same on playback. (EDIT re-ran alsaconf, sound options then appears in frontend general setup. Changed the "Master Controls" option to "Master". Volume in frontend no controls the "Front" channel of the audio. The TV card audio lead is plugged in to the CD jack on the motherboard, however my alsamixer only has Headphone and Front enabled and all works fine)

:!: :D Remote and VFD are working perfectly now, need a little tweak. The lirc_imon module needs loading, but it does not load when placed in /etc/modules so I made a small init.d script to do it instead, literally (lazy I know):

/etc/init.d/imon
Code:
#!/bin/sh
echo -e "Configuring iMon remote and VFD hardware ... \c"
modprobe lirc_imon
echo "done."

I then had to change the rc.d orders a little so that the lirc module was loaded first, then the lirc load script, then the LCDd script. After "update-rc.d -f remove lirc" and the same with LCDd, I then added them back in after my script for example: "update-rc.d lirc start 22 2 3 4 5 ." such that I now have this order:

Code:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Mar  9 12:27 S21imon.sh -> ../init.d/imon.sh
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Mar  9 12:27 S22lirc -> ../init.d/lirc
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 Mar  9 12:27 S23LCDd -> ../init.d/LCD

Now, when the box boots up, the IR/VFD module loads, lirc loads up, then LCDd loads and displays its server status on the VFD. Shortly after, X loads up and mythfrontend takes over control of the VFD. If the VFD setup is not as above before mythfrontend loads, mythlcdserver will start and hang around stopping anything else from working, so it needs to be killed or the box rebooted once the VFD and LCDd init stuff is all working as planned.

When you shutdown the box, it will leave the lcdproc goodbye message on the screen, sometimes you don't want this, so I modified the LCDd script, under the "stop)" section, I added the following after the start-stop-daemon line:

Code:
sleep 1
echo -e "                \c" > /dev/lcd0

The remote was configured in /etc/lircd/hardware.conf with DEVICE="/dev/lirc0" and MODULES="" (no module specified).

http://venky.ws/projects/imon/ has the lircd.conf file that works and my lircrc file I forget where I got it from, so you can find it on my server here: http://slowest.net/lircrc

I have not patched lirc to get the mousepad working on the remote as yet as I don't really need it, and there is a lot of talk of it being troublesome, so I might try this later.

Thanks to all who have made KnoppMyth and MythTV what it is! I hope I can help someone out with a similar config at some point :)

:D Network fixed. I failed to notice the obvious "IMPORTANT NOTICE" on the driver page (http://www.hogchain.net/attansic/attansic.html) talking about tuning off TSO.

Can put a command at boot to use ethtool to turn it off, or edit and recompile the driver, which is what I've done. Now to sort out the audio!

:D Audio fixed. Ran alsaconf again and had to change the "Mixer Controls" option to "Master" in the General frontend setup. Edited above.
