# Video type: [HDTV | SDTV]
# Type of system: [front-end]
# Noise level: Virtually noiseless

# CASE: ASUS P1-AH2
# PSU: ASUS P1-AH2
# MOTHERBOARD: ASUS P1-AH2
# CPU: AMD|A64 X2 4800+ 2.5G AM2 65-Watt
# RAM: Corsair 2Gb
# CPU HEATSINK: AMD
# NORTHBRIDGE HEATSINK: ASUS
# CD/DVD-RW: Pioneer slot-load
# HDD: WD ST9100823A 100Gb Notebook Hard Drive
# GRAPHICS CARD: Onboard NVidia 6150
# SOUNDCARD: Onboard NVidia ALC861
# TUNER CARD: None
# REMOTE CONTROL: One-For-All URC-8910 programmed via JP1 plus Serial IR receiver from irblaster.info
# TV: Samsung HP-S4253 42" plasma, connected via DVI - HDMI cable, resolution 720P.

I had to place this unit in Tier 2 because of its soundcard. Took me two days to figure out how to get S/PDIF to work because a standard install of R5F27 did not install the correct driver(s). Had to go to the Realtek site to download the current drivers for this card. The commands I followed to do so are from LivePatch.sh from R5F27, slightly modified:
*note: the current driver is 5.01
(as root):

Code:

# cd /tmp
# /bin/mv /lib/modules/2.6.18.chw-13/updates/alsa /tmp
# wget ftp://209.216.61.149/pc/audio/realtek-linux-audiopack-<current-driver-name>.tar.bz2
# tar xfj realtek-linux-audiopack-<current-driver-name>.tar.bz2
# cd realtek-linux-audiopack-<current-driver-name>
# sed -i "s/^\(alsaconf\)/#\1/g" install
# ./install
reboot

Hi Steeve, I don't see any HD tuners in your backend or frontend, but you list HDTV in your video type. I'm curious if your ASUS P1-AH2 front end is fast enough to play 1080i over-the-air recordings (nbc, cbs) with xvmc turned off? Any stuttering while the OSD fades out?

Also is your TV HD (what resolution?) and what are you feeding it with? DVI, or composite or something else?
Thanks,
Ziggy

My experience is that the unit has been able to handle everything I throw at it, all day long.

Ziggy, I've changed my profile to reflect more of my hardware setup. I also edited my Tier 2 post to include the TV.

In answer to your queries:
TV: Samsung HP-S4253 42" plasma; resolution: 720P. This TV can do 1080i, but I had trouble getting the graphics cards to do 1080i, so I settled on 720P. I do plan to buy a 1080P TV soon, and am looking forward to testing the P1-AH2 with it!
No stuttering whatsoever at any setting, regardless of OSD. Right now it is set at linear blend deinterlacing and libmpg2. XvMC is NOT being used. Connection is DVI - HDMI cable.
In my opinion this is a terrific FE, very quiet, good graphics and CPU power, and almost all the right connections (curious that the optical port is in the front...).

Hope this helps!
