Hi all,

My old mythbox died (heat related) and I got new hardware that was (mostly) effortless to get working.

The really hot thing is the ECS 945GCD-M motherboard which is an Intel Atom board with 1 PCI-X16 slot, 1 PCI slot, and 1 PCI-X1 slot. This allows you to do whatever with an Intel Atom.

The only thing I needed to edit was the xorg.conf file to get the component out working from my Gigabyte 8400GS card in 1080i. Without changes to xorg.conf it outputs 1024x768 from the component out and does not give any option to do 1080i

So here it is:
ECS 945GCD-M Intel atom motherboard with 3 slots (micro-atx)
GIGABYTE GV-NX84S512HP GeForce 8400 GS video card
1 GB RAM
500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS SATA hard drive
SilenX case fan.
old Gigabyte Wireless ethernet USB dongle (bought from mythic.tv)
old HD3000 ATSC tuner card

I also put the old case fan on 5V instead of 12V to make it quiet and rubber banded it to the 8400GS card to cool it.

All told about $200 not including old parts.

I will let you know, but I am guessing it will be somewhere around 30 watts power draw and is very quiet compared to my old 6150 based AMD 3200+ setup.

Cool do keep us posted. I'm running a similar box to your old setup, going strong for 3 years now. I am still running 5E50(?), no need to upgrade something that works (and upgrades always involve some amount of pain, even if small].

I'm very interested to hear what the power draw is...

Well the whole box draws 49 watts at idle, and 52 watts while watching HDTV.

I need to figure out how to get the idle power down. Hopefully there is a way to make the display go to sleep.

Here are some of the things I have learned about power consumption:

1. Chk ur power supply - 80+ pct makes a difference.

2. 8400 uses a lot of power. 7000 series cards use a lot less power.

3. Some of the early 500gb seagate sata drives were noisy and power hungry. A green drive will save power..

If memory serves me right, fixing 2 abd 3 could save u 10 - 20 watts.
