Does anyone know what MythDVD uses to rip a DVD to ISO format?

Does it just use the 'dd' command? Or something else? I can't seem to find the answer via Google.

I don't know, but you could try running "ps -ef" or "top" in an xterm while it's happening. That'd be the quickest way to find out.
Alternatively, the script would be slightly more work.

Once upon a time it used libdvdread. The code was modified around r8965 (between 0.19 and 0.20) so that it uses a slightly modified copy of libdvdnav (which I think implements the same API that libdvdread used to).

All of these libraries look for the existence of a particular illegal library, and if it is present, are able to read/store an unencrypted version of the DVD.
