I think I saw a vague passing reference to KM under the mythbuntu review...

It really is appalling that these so called "reviewers" don't do their homework.
Thats the world we live in now I guess. Any blogpost is taken as the gospel truth. I tried to post a comment regarding knoppmyth, but it didn't show up.

Knoppmyth has been around longer, is easier to setup and configure and has bigger user base (thus support base) than Mythdora.

Oh... but it isn't as "pretty" because it doesn't have a graphical installer and a pretty "F" in the kicker panel or a colorful crayola background. Guess in most people's minds, that must mean it's better. Thanks Apple...

Chill people, it's not a big deal. The clueless are an opportunity for education that's all. We see these on a regular basis, and KM is still the most popular MythTV focused distro by quite a ways.

Hi,

tjc's reference to the iceburg is probably very close to on target! One can only guess that for each user that has built a box for themselves, they have probably built another half dozen for friends and family which don't show on the radar :)

What I enjoy seeing is when someone comes up for air with a R4Vx system,"thinking" about upgrading. That was in the way back days when Cecil and Dale were still young pups and KM was only an infant!

I have one KM box that has been up for 462 days so far and as long as the ups can handle the power bumps I expect it will run longer.

KM just plain rocks in my book.

Perhaps if Cecil implements SMOLT we may get a much better indication of the install user base.

As you guys have indicated that this article only has a fleeting reference to KM, that being said I will give it a miss and not even give the site a hit.

I think one of the things I find commonly in these reviews is the focus on the installer. You look at the installer for about 15mins in KM case and then that is it, in some cases I have read you can look at it for 3 times as long. What they don't realise is that after it is installed it runs pretty much off the same base system (MythTV), just that KM includes a hell of a lot more functionality out of the box. I don't get it :?

SMOLT will be in R 5.5.

Nor do I. But, I'm learning to not let it bother me. To the author's credit, he did state he'd look into KnoppMyth...

I just hope that he posts a follow up to his article to indicate his experience with KM, for the sake of completeness.
