Oh, we discussed the usual... Comcast sucks. DirecTV sucks. All cable and satellite companies suck. OTA sucks. DRM sucks. Windoze... Oh well, you get the idea!

On the positive side, we reminisced about the quality days of building our own CP/M computers with wire-wrapped 64K RAM boards and whether WordPerfect was better than WordStar. Then we hitched up our walkers and tottered back to the retirement home for old programmers.

.. but not limited to "video providers".. we included the broadband providers as well.. hey! we don't want AT&T to get mad or jealous .. they might just come up with something that sucks worse! They are the champs of suck!

My neighborhood has a lot of history with PacBell >> SBC >> AT&T (Aren't they overdue for another name change?) Last year, when gas prices were sky-high.. one of my neighbors was so proud to be working for a company that wasn't "most hated".. No worries, they're back at the top!

We also lamented that us technical types are not good at marketing.. with all due respect to Cecil and the core team, "LinHES" doesn't have the special ring.. Unfortunately "TiVo" has been taken! (Too bad they probably won't survive to claim "victory".)

Not limited to KM.. we also discussed computers along the lines of "it isn't a toaster". While there are certainly "advances" in what a computer can do, they are just not "easy" to use. The future will still require someone with skills in Assembly Language Programming!

I'm thinking its time for another gathering. Is anybody up for lunch at Fiesta Del Mar Too on Villa St. in Mountain View on Saturday, July 11 at noon? There are two restaurants by this name in Mountain View, so make sure you go to the one that the link points to!

Post back if you're interested...

THANKS. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make this one.
Idea for future events: With so many Fry's in the Bay Area .. and, as far as I know, all of them have a little coffee shop in house.. we could build a regular meeting rotation schedule around them. :D
Cheers!

Dunno if the 11th will work for me either. I fly back to Albuquerque every 2nd or 3rd week to look in on my mom, usually between Fri. and Tues. The weekend of the 11th is supposed to be Albuquerque, but the weekend after (or any Wednesday) would work for me.

Weekends work better for me than weekdays. Does the 18th work for either of you?

Bluesbrian -- we can meet in Fry's, but you've got to try out Fiesta Del Mar. Its the best Mexican in the bay area. Of course if you don't like Mexican food, we can re-direct.

Any others care to join us?

How many will be attending?! By brother should be re-enlisting something soon. He is in Sacramento. I'll let everyone know as soon as I find out. Perhaps I can come to the bar area for a day.

That would be great. .. awesome! I've pitched the event to a friend of mine in the area too. (I'm still checking my schedule, it looks "positive"... I'm almost "in" for it.)

Let us know what day works for you and I will move my schedule to fit. Some things are just more important than another day at work.

(Sometimes I develop eye trouble -- I just can't see going to work!)

Cecil, it would be great to meet if you can make it to town! Our "gathering" is pretty small -- just 3 of us.

If you guys are up for it I'm going to suggest the following "itinerary":

1. Lunch at Fiesta Del Mar Too on Villa St at noon.
2. Coffee at the Peets located ~4 blocks away.
3. Shopping trip to the Palo Alto Fry's.

Here's a link to the entire route.

Not sure yet. Our business unit is relocating from Belmont to Santa Clara. My old R/T commute was 13 miles bike + 27 miles on Caltrain = 50 miles total. The new commute is 21 miles R/T on the bike, no train. This all starts Monday, so I'm not sure yet how I will hold up against this much biking on a weekly basis. I'll decide what mood I'm in on Saturday...

Dude! We're NEIGHBORS now! I live and work around San Tomas between Walsh and Monroe. Where's your new digs? We have to try La Paloma on El Camino...
