Hello,

I am trying to setup a system which is a Asus M3A and a Geforce 8400 video card and 3 PCI tuners and one SATA HDD. As a test run I had one tuner installed and successfully install Linhes 7.2 which was the lastest one at the time.
Many months later I installed 2 more tuners and then decided to install Linhes 7.4 but it does not install. I have tried installing 7.2 again but it does the same thing. It stops at the line:

New x configuration file written to 'etc/x11/xorg.conf.d/20-automv.conf'

When installing after that line the screen goes blank to for second then just stays at the above line. Is it just about the load the menu? If press Ctrl Alt Del and the installer shuts down and ejects
the disc to reboot so the computer has not locked up.
I have also tried another HDD (SATA) and is does the same thing. I have tried normal install and special 8400 install and it is the same.

I can still boot from the HDD with the 7.2 installed, but why can't I install and new install when it worked before?

Thanks for the info.

I have had a chance today to look at it again. First up I tried R8 and it did a similar thing to 7. At the same point when it changes to a black screen in R8 the screen stays
blank and the computer is locked up.

I can still boot the original R7.2 install from ages ago off the HDD ok it is just strange that I cannot reinstall it or R7.4 even if I use a completely different HDD. There is one difference I just remembered I have
changed the DVD-ROM Drive I might try the one I used for the first install.

And another thing I just remembered. The first line when installing it comes up with error: ata1: softreset failed (device not ready) what does that mean?

The error
error: ata1: softreset failed

It's related to a sata controller issue

What kind of motherboard do you have that would provide some insight .....

The Motherboard is a Asus M3A
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3A/
Video Card is Nvidia 8400
http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/pro ... x?pid=3510

I have just tried using another video card that I swapped out of another machine temporally.
It is a ATI Radeon and it worked! The screen went blank then a menu appeared.

I did get errors still at the beginning.
It came up with the error ata3: softreset failed. Was 1 before.
Also another error on the line before was intel i915 can't work with AGP module or something?
I will look into it further and post what I find. It might be the video card (nvidia) and the newly added
turners are not playing nice?

In regards to the sata controller. The manual for the Asus M3a explains bios settings.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M3AHHD ... ownload_29

On page 64

2.3.6 Storage Configuration

Choices

On Chip Sata Channel Enable
On Chip Sata Type Enable
Configuration Options IDE/RAID/ACHI

Try setting it for ACHI and reboot, if the drives detect correctly at boot up then reload.

Thanks for the info again.

I tried changing the BOIS settings for the SATA to ACHI but it still did the same error.

As for the other error it is this: *ERROR* drm/i915 can't work without intel_agp module!

Which is weird as it is an AMD MB and it does not use an Intel i915 chipset or onboard video.

I have seen these post on the web. Don't know if its related or not.

OK

On page 76 of the Asus M3a manual in the Bios

Onboard Device Settings

Primary Display Adapter

Options

PCI-E. PCI, Onboard

Make sure you select PCI-E and use the NVdia Card

Also keep it on ACHI

fixing ERROR* drm/i915 ... kernel recompile

Just want to let you know I have got it installed I used the VESA option and it worked. As it will be used as a Master Backend I don't need TV etc. on the video card.
I have not fully set the system up yet, getting there.
