Finally decide to go ahead and move from 8.2 to 8.3 on my test box.

I have xbmc installed but do not use the xbmc-pvr-addons, so that package is not installed, That being said I omitted these two steps:
Quote:
sudo pacman -R xbmc xbmc-pvr-addons
sudo pacman -S kodi kodi-pvr-addons

The upgrade ends with the following messages.
Code:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
kodi: /usr/include/xbmc exists in filesystem
kodi: /usr/lib/xbmc exists in filesystem
kodi: /usr/share/xbmc exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Can I just delete the xbmc directory's?

During the install process it asks if you want to install Kodi. if you answer "No" to this prompt the install will run to completion, However if you have xbmc installed it will no longer work.

Manually deleting or renaming the directory's allows the install to complete successfully.

Bug report #996 has been submitted.

This is exactly why the xbmc removal steps are mentioned in the update process. For some reason pacman doesn't order the update correctly with kodi replacing xbmc so some manual intervention is required.
