Upon installing r5a10 on my system I noticed that the Samsung DLP was depicted in the penguin's living room-- the very one I just bought! That got me to thinking, does anyone else have the modelines for samsung hdtv pictured on wallpaper of r5a10?

LOL. No, I don't have the modeline or the HDTV. Have you tried avsforum.com?

No, I haven't but I'll check there. I figured that the 3d model must have been inspired from somewhere, and I was actually more curious about who did the modeling and the inspiration rather than the modline... but I figured it was a great segway....

I don't have one; looks pretty cool though! I DLed the manual of one of the Captain Kirk models and it has a whole section on connecting a PC. From the info they have there (horiz/vert frequency, pixel clock, polarity), you should be able to have this website build you a useful modeline:

http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl

Let me know if it works.

I then went to the url in the post above and using the numbers from above and from the manual I generated the following lines:

Modeline "1280x720" 74.17 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757 -hsync +vsync
Modeline "1280x720" 74.25 1280 1312 1592 1624 720 735 742 757

Running at this resolution is a little messed up when using the following samsung setting in picture-->size: Wide TV and Wide PC. "Expand" is the setting I used because the top and bottom of the screen get cropped off in the first 2 settings. The ideal would be to use Wide TV, but this will have to do for now.

Here is what I have for the HL-5085W, the smaller version of that set. Best resolution seems to be 1024x768 for normal aspect ratio, and 1280x720 for wide aspect ratio. Using the settings below without the nvidia driver cut off a bit of the top and bottom of my picture, but once I installed the nvida driver for my FX5200 I got the whole picture, in fact I got about a 3/4 inch black border around the edges. Not ideal but I'd rather have a bit of a border than have part of the picture cut off. These settings are also all based on the E-DID sensing info my set returns on the DVI input. It looks like my results match up close with what freddyman posted, and exact on the 1280x720 and 1024x768 modelines, and we arrived at those independently on two different sets. I'm still experimenting though...

I had the same problem with the size of the screen on my Sam. I did the following tweaks to get rid of the black box:

Put the main myth screen on.

On the Sam tv setup menu, go to setup--> pc--> auto adjustment

Switch between Wide PC and Expand under the picture settings seeing what gets cropped off.

Go back to setup--> pc and use the coarse adjustment and position to get the width set.

There is no way to tweak the height in the Sam menus, but the height is only a little off, but minimal in my opinion, so I can live with it.

ok, now I'm having some trouble. I tried to upgrade from using the nv driver to the nvidia driver. I just installed the nvidia drivers as described in the installation instructions. I'm using r5a12:

cd /usr/src
tar-xjvf kernel<TAB>
install-nv<TAB>

Then got stuck on the nvidia startup screen. So I went into XF86config-4 to check out what was the probelm. I'm using the same modelines that I used for the nv driver. Anyone have an idea of what I missed?:
