Hi *

I'm trying to setup small media network in my home.

Backend will be KnoppMyth r5a16, frontend: diskless MiniMyth. Frontend will boot via network from backend.

As first steep I started with configuration of backend TFTP server on KnopMyth.

I go to /etc/default/tftpd-hpa file and change RUN_DAEMON" to "YES"

When I type "/bin/sh tftpd-hpa start" nothing happens (I receive immediately prompt without any additional info).

When I run "/usr/sbin/in.tftpd -l"
also nothing happens, but this time I get entry in syslog:

"Aug 21 21:05:40 mythtv in.tftpd[3984]: cannot bind to local socket: Permission denied"

Now if I su to root and run again "/usr/sbin/in.tftpd -l" - I have tftpd in process list.

So how can I get TFTPD running without going su and with use tftpd-hpa script ?

And more general question: how can I manage to start automatically tftpd server during boot of KnopMyth ?

Here is my /etc/default/tftpd-hpa file:

#Defaults for tftpd-hpa
RUN_DAEMON="yes"
OPTIONS="-l -s /var/lib/tftpboot"
#OPTIONS="-l -vv -p -u root -s /tftpboot"

Milion thanx in advance !

There are steps on getting tftp running in the MediaMVP HOWTO on the KnoppMyth wiki

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... LinuxHOWTO

Try just Step 4 and see if that helps.

Why not just run the modified Knoppix terminal server?

Hi cesman,

Would you be so kind and elaborate a little about the modified Knoppix terminal server?

Thanks
Mike

Well,

My rule of thumb is to use for given task the best tailored software/product.

IMHO: For remote, diskless frondent - MiniMyth looks best (it is based on MythTV, precompiled for EPIA M & ready to use with very simple one .conf file modifications.)

So arranging nice, home multimedia network is a matter of 15 min setup (at least in theory :-p))))

What is lacking: simple & complete HowTo for setting up frontend/backend based on MythTV/MiniMyth & EPIA M hw.
I will gather my experience with this subject and try to produce such...

You should know better than to be asking cesman to waste his time without doing a search yourself. A search for "terminal server" returns 24 posts one of which is suggestively titled "Diskless front end suggestion". http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... nal+server
Reading this you would have found the command of interest was prep-ts and the first hit when you search for this has someone claiming it works.

Hi Greg Frost,

I understand being busy and wasting time. I did learn all about terminal servers and clustering and a hundred other things during my searching. What I didn't tie in was the "prep-ts", that was all that I needed.

Thank you :)
Mike
