This problem may be related to your RF keyboard after all. Try this. Open a terminal and run irw. Now press the I key. You should notice that the letter I prints out on the terminal.

The keypresses you are seeing may be coming from the keyboard/RF interference. Leave irw running overnight but disconnect your keyboard receiver and see if you get anymore phantom keypresses.

Hi Arnie,
assuming you mean i type I in a different terminal or from mythtv. When i do this the keypresses are not echoed in the irw window.

No. Make sure the terminal window has focus. And when I say the I key, I mean on the keyboard, not the remote. That was a bad example on my part, I should have said any key.

wow - now im completely confused ...
:?

running irw in terminal a will echo whats happening with IR signals recieved by lircd...

so doing this and pressing keys on the remote echoes how the remote keys are interpreted....

Now opening another terminal and typing keys from the keyboard should prove/disprove if they are generating IR interference as they would appear in the irw terminal.

However if I understand you right you are suggesting that i type with the irw window in focus ? Doing this will echo the key strokes to this window simply because its in focus - so this proves nothing unless i have COMPLETELY misunderstood you (which is possible
 )

The interference you are seeing -

Code:
8j7g^[[Dba

looks like random KEYBOARD noise, not IR codes received by you remote receiver. If you look at the output from irw it is displaying hex digits for each IR event it receives. ^, [, j and g are not valid hex digits.

Just plug in a wired keyboard and re-run the irw-over-night test. You should no longer see and random keystrokes in the irw window.

If that is the case, you need to find a way to reduce the RF interference your keyboard receiver is getting. If it does not disappear, get a few mouse traps, 'cause you got critters runnin' over yer keyboard!
