I recently installed R5B7. I have tried playing a CD in MythMusic and have also imported the CD, but can't get either to play. I can see the music files in edit play list and have selected them then when I get back to the play list I can't get anything to play, the play timer doesn't change at all. In previous releases I know that the songs started as soon as I went back to the play list, is that still true in the default setup of R5B7? But if not I have still tried using both my remote and keyboard. I select a song, push play on the remote or enter on the keyboard and nothing happens. This has always worked without any modification in prior releases for me, anyone got any ideas?
I see this from old postings, so FYI:
root@mythtv:/home/scsever# ls -al /dev/dvd /dev/cdrom /dev/scd0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root cdrom 8 Mar 22 20:00 /dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root cdrom 8 Mar 22 20:00 /dev/dvd -> /dev/hdd
brw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 11, 0 May 7 2004 /dev/scd0
Thanks,

Is your volume for that "source" set appropraitely in the mixer? Someone else was complaing about the same thing earlier today, and it turned out that their volume was just turned way down.

Yes, mixer is set at 85% and un-muted. I think the problem is that it just won't play. The music timer never changes, say it's a 4:30 minute song, it never counts down. Also if I push my keyboard keys or remote to play, pause or stop, nothing happens. I can select the songs and also forward or back to a song using either the remote or keyboard. I just had this working a week ago on R5A30.2 and I do recall that MythMusic config was just trivial for my situation. I am pretty sure though that my player is just not playing at all. Is there a way to send a command through a term to play a file through MythMusic as a test? Does this latest release use a different player?
Thanks,

Have you got the "Audio Device" setting set properly on the General Settings page for MythMusic?

Ok, I'm sorry if I am missing something in the two replies but I think what you are telling me is only going to help me get sound, right? What I'm saying is that my player just doesn't play. And until that happens I won't be able to experiment with the audio settings, effectively anyway because I have tried different settings. In the past I have always seen the timer count down or the effects window start dancing or something that would tell me that it is now playing but now just nothing, it's like a dead window. I can scroll through the music but when I select it... nothing. I don't say any of this with any disrespect, just want to be sure that what "I believe" I am experiencing is understood. I've found this is one of the most helpful forums ever!!
Thanks again,

If MythMusic can't open the audio device you won't see the visualizer change or the track time change because they both rely on events sent from the sound system.
What is the 'Audio Device' setting set to on the MythMusic/General Settings page?
Also when you select a track to play what messages do you see in your frontend log.
You should see something like
Quote: 2006-03-27 19:23:45.210 Opening audio device 'default'
The name 'default' will match the setting you set above.
It might be nothing to do with that but that is the first thing I would check.

That was it. I went through the Audio Devices until I found one that would play, which happened to be /dev/adsp. I just keep learning all the time.
Thanks for the help!!!
