Ive done a clean install of KnopMyth and am using a Hauppauge DEC2000t usb tuner.
I get the tuner all set up but cant add channels

If I do a "tuned scan" and enter a freq for my transmitter (crystal palace) it finds a few transports and adds them, but no channels.
If i do a channel scan of existing transports it says "No tables" for each one and finds no channels.

I have a valid channels.conf with the right info, but when I try to import that under channel scan it only finds 2 channels, BBCi and CBBC. No others. Also, those 2 dont work and i cant watch them.

I cant find ANY way to get the channels in Myth. When I manualy enter them there is no way to put the PID for audio/video into it! Help

Hello

There are some issues with DVB right now and the myth developers are working on them. The place to check is

http://cvs.mythtv.org/

Overall there is a lot of work going into DTV support in Myth and it's gettting better with each revision.

This link also has some DVB info but it's old in relation to kernal 2.6.15 that the current knoppmyth is using.

http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/mythdvb.html

I have an Air2pc ASTC card that is setup as DVB in mythtv-setup. I use an antenna (OTA) to recieve Television.

Try this

code

su
femon

see if you are gettting any locks on your channels. If it does not lock it will not work. Sometimes it's necessary to scan the channels more than once to get all the channels in my area. I know with from experience...

It seems to lock. During channel scan it says "LOCKED"

Using mplayer and tzap from a shell i can even watch BBC One etc.

The problem is even though i can get it to find the transports and save those, it never finds channels in them.
A channel scan of the transports it finds says "No Tables", it doesnt seem to recognise the format of the channels.

the old tools like tzap allow me to use a channels.conf i downloaded from the net, and it works. I can watch the channels in it over mplayer (other performance issues even though its a 1.5gig p4 with 1gigram!)

Spec,
P4 1.5gig
old crap 8gig HD (new one in the post)
Nvidia Gforce MX 440 dual head (one output used only)
3Com network card
DEC 2000 T usb Digital tuner
MythTV version 0.19somethign

Its the latest R5B7 knopmyth.

Trying to import the channels.conf file only gives the two mentioned, and they dont seem to work (could be reception issues). I know BBC One works but cant get that into the channel list.

I dont know much about mysql but ill try to edit the PIDs for the channels it has to make it point to BBC One instead as I know that should work.

Take a look at this post and see if it provides any insight to you

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/m ... ers/192992

It seems that the channel scanner has a problem in Myth .19 with some DVB-T.

As a workaround you might want to try try out Knoppmyth R530.2 and see if that works for you. I have a suspicion that it might be the way to go for now.

I think the whole idea with DTV and .19 is to move towards tighter integration so you don't have to stuggle thru it. Unfortunately your current problem points out some of the risks with that approach. Moreover, the Hauppauge DEC2000t is nitch and that makes it even more difficult to find helpful information.

Couldnt find 30.2, but used 30 instead.

Seems to be better, but 2 lockups now. One, when it tries to run uk_grab_ script, it gets to 50% and dies.
Second, when i did a channel scan, it found all the transports, then carried on scanning for about 40 minutes, then locked at 100% and didnt go any further.

Ill try importing the channels.conf i have and see if that works.

HMMM! No import channels.conf option??

It has been my experience on my DVB card that I needed to get the firmware for it to do the channel scan correctly. In my case it took about 40 minutes and would not find any channels without firmware. After I copied the firmware file to /lib/firmware and rebooted, scanned it, and found most of the channels in about 4 minutes. I don't know the details of the DEC2000-t other than what's posted on the happauge uk board.....

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=5618

To find the firmware version you must be in the TV mode. (Connected to TV) Press the Setup on your remote & look at the top part of the screen.

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=5089

Where can I obtain the latest firmware for DEC2000-t
IMPORTANT: Please be aware that there are several hardware revisions of the DEC2000-t "in the wild". The firmware IS NOT interchangeable between them. DO NOT update the firmware unless you know absolutely for sure which revision yours is.

* REV 264 - 3.5mm Line Out (Analogue) on rear
* REV 266 - RCA/Phono Coax Out (Digital) on rear

Even if the manual says it's a 3.5mm analogue line out, CHECK!

I thought R5B7 had all the firmware already downloaded?

I dont beleive that the Dec2000t would be able to play channels via mplayer and show them onscreen, but not tune in Myth without a firmware image.

If there was no firmware it just wouldnt connect to the box right?

The only thing I can think is that the images in knopmyth are in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware and not /lib/firmware.

ive copied it to the other dir, and am rebooting now to see if there is a difference...

Nothing, here is the error,

2006-04-10 23:04:23.536 DVB#0 Using DVB card 0, with frontend 'TechnoTrend/Hauppauge DEC2000-t Frontend'.

2006-04-10 23:04:23.545 DVB#0 DVB SI Table Parser Started

Just thought, there are 2 firmware images, maybe the included one is the wrong one... Ill try to find the right file for the other image. I think when you Flash the internal firmware you need to get the right image, but the PC side doesnt matter. I have latest UK 1.11 firmware on the box.
Just tried the 218 T and T2 firmware images, no difference. It really does look like a problem with MythTV

Also, googling around I found this message in the myth users mailing list

"Hello all,
I have difficulties scanning channels with a DVB-T card in Germany, the HW
and
driver must be ok, I get all the channels sopposed to be there when using
dvbscan from linuxtv,org

When I use mythtv-setup, I can see from debugging output that there is a
look,
it sees the services available on the channel, but it complains about a
missing table and doesn't find any channel, it worked also with 0.18.1

Anybody an idea or even anybody succesfully tuning DVB-T in northern Germany
with 0.19?"

This sounds the same issue i have, he can use tzap etc to view a channel, I have seen video from mplayer even. But mythtv-setup says "no tables" and doesnt recognise the channels, only finding the transports.

I think this is a .19 bug that needs reporting, anybody know how to do this?

CVS is the place for bugs

http://cvs.mythtv.org/

As for firmware the file that I needed is not on the R30.2 or the R5B7 cd.
Without this file and a reboot my channel scan will not work at all....

Your best chance right now seems to be to try myth .18

I thought mythtv was using trac now.

Ok, I got a little further...

Running DVBSCAN on the transport gives me this for the channels
0x0000 0x1044: pmt_pid 0x1044 BBC -- BBC ONE (???)
0x0000 0x1084: pmt_pid 0x1084 BBC -- BBC TWO (???)
0x0000 0x10ff: pmt_pid 0x10ff BBC -- BBC THREE (???)
0x0000 0x113f: pmt_pid 0x113f BBC -- BBC NEWS 24 (???)
0x0000 0x117f: pmt_pid 0x117f BBC -- BBCi (???)
0x0000 0x123f: pmt_pid 0x123f BBC -- CBBC Channel (???)
dumping lists (6 services)
BBC ONE (0x1044) 01: PCR == V V 0x0258 A 0x0259 (eng) 0x025a (eng) SUB 0x025b
BBC TWO (0x1084) 01: PCR == V V 0x0262 A 0x0263 (eng) 0x0264 (eng) SUB 0x0265
BBC THREE (0x10ff) 01: PCR == V V 0x026c A 0x026d (eng) 0x026e (eng) SUB 0x026f
BBC NEWS 24 (0x113f) 01: PCR == V V 0x0280 A 0x0281 (eng) SUB 0x0283
BBCi (0x117f) 01: PCR 0x1fff
CBBC Channel (0x123f) 01: PCR 0x1fff
Done.

However, the channels.conf ive been trying to import has them like this,
BBCi:505833333:INVERSION_OFF:BANDWIDTH_8_MHZ:FEC_3_4:FEC_NONE:QAM_16:TRANSMISSION_MODE_2K:GUARD_INTERVAL_1_32:HIERARCHY_NONE:0:0:4479
CBBC Channel:505833333:INVERSION_OFF:BANDWIDTH_8_MHZ:FEC_3_4:FEC_NONE:QAM_16:TRANSMISSION_MODE_2K:GUARD_INTERVAL_1_32:HIERARCHY_NONE:0:0:4671
BBC ONE:505833333:INVERSION_OFF:BANDWIDTH_8_MHZ:FEC_3_4:FEC_NONE:QAM_16:TRANSMISSION_MODE_2K:GUARD_INTERVAL_1_32:HIERARCHY_NONE:600:601
BBC TWO:505833333:INVERSION_OFF:BANDWIDTH_8_MHZ:FEC_3_4:FEC_NONE:QAM_16:TRANSMISSION_MODE_2K:GUARD_INTERVAL_1_32:HIERARCHY_NONE:610:611

The interesting part is the ID at the end of the line, for BBCi (the one that gets imported) it has 0:0:4479, but for BBC ONE it has 600:601 and no third id.

I took the PID from dvbscan, converted it from hex to Dec and added it to the channels.conf
guess what? It added the BBC ONE channel, and the others I added the PID for :)

So, I now have the channels in the list. But they STILL DONT WORK.
if i use tzap BBC ONE and mplayer i can see the video stream. Mythtv however, will still not work. I get
"Signal 0% | (L__) Partial Lock"
then an error about "you should have got a lock by now"

Now I KNOW the signal is good, because mplayer and tzap let me watch it. If I unplug the uSB i can use it direct to the tv ok. So MythTV cannot read the signal level properly, this matches the error I got during channel scan too.

It seems the bug is in the subroutine for reading back signal level etc.

Glad to see your getting closer

Check out this page I think it might help you out because the user is setting up a DVB-T in the UK and it shows some examples.

Good Luck

Well, thanks for that link, its a great guide. Should I manage to find a Nova-T card anywhere ill get it all working easily.

However, it seems that currently the DEC2000-T support is broken.
Even WITH the correct channel data and channels in the list, with the correct firmware on the box it wont work.
the dvb-utils etc work fine, yuo can tzap the channel in ok, and mplayer it to the screen, and watch TV that way.

MythTV however cannot view a channel. It claims 0% signal and wont lock, giving only a partial lock.

Now I know there is a signal, and I know it works because ive watched it using mplayer. MythTV simply cannot do it itself.

The fault seems to lie here,
"2006-04-10 23:04:23.539 DVBSignalMonitor(0)::constructor(-1,Warning, can not measure Signal Strength): Operation not supported"

Im not a programmer and wouldnt know where to start with the source code for this routine, but it obviously doesnt like my DEC2000T.

I guess i have to buy a new tuner card or wait for somebody to fix Myth.

Something DVB related is broken somewhere in either Myth or Knoppmyth. My last install of R5A26 worked fine, but when I installed R5B7 and then later R5C7, I get exactly the same issues. It finds a few transports and adds a few channels, which seem to work OK, but loads of channels are missing.
I rescanned loads, checked the hardware, reinstalled, checked the CD, typed the transport details in by hand, grafted bits of the old database over to the new install, none of which helped.
I finally then went back to R5A26, which unsurprisingly still works fine.

Let's hope it works in the next version... :(

If someone can point to a concrete fix, then it will work. Hoping it will won't do nothing.
