I'm at my wit's end for this one. Hopefully someone out there can help.
I built a myth box using a VIA C3 ITX. Installed knoppmyth and was amazed at how well it works (before using knoppmyth I tried to put mythtv together from scratch). Then I came home.
Here I have directv, a DRD222RD box to be specific, and I found this website, http://www.pdp8.net/directv/directv.shtml. I got the adapter, plugged it in, and nothing happened. I made sure I wired it right (red to 2, yellow to 3, black to 5) and still nothing. The box is set to 'Low Speed Data', and I've tried almost every combination of commands with the script, and still get 'Error excessive retries'.
To be quite honest, I can't stand to watch any more commercials, let alone be without mythtv. The site I got this from says it was tested with my model, but any more documentation past that has been spotty. Anyone have any clue?

http://www.hitchhiker.org/dss/
this code is included with knoppmyth
/usr/src/mythtv/source/mythtv-0.19-fixes.tar.bz2
bunzip2 and untar that, then go into the directory you extracted it to
the code is in
/contrib/channel_changers
and it is called d10control.pl
there's a readme that should walk you through setup

Well, after finding out I was running a much older version of Knoppmyth, trying to upgrade using a cd that did not burn properly, trying to convince a Via C3 to boot from a usb device, and accidentally blasting away my sql backup, I find that this script too, did not work.
I was really, really, really hoping that this would work, since--at first--it seemed easy and cheap (and no OSD from the directv box). But after all this anguish, I'm reading the IR blaster thread.
If you get an idea, post a reply, I'm still open to suggestions.

I don't know if I need a reinstall (not that I'm against it, for some reason KnoppMyth isn't seeing my PVR-150 at the moment). I've tried using my laptop (Suse 10, I dled and ran the script), but I still get "Error, too many retries."
I have the feeling I'm doing something wrong here, but I still have no idea what.

BTW - Cecil would probably prefer that we start a seperate thread to discuss this, so if those don't get you on the right path, a new topic is indicated.

Sorry for the overdue reply. I haven't had the chance to play with my mythbox recently for several reasons (primarily my family getting annoyed with all the hardware in the living room).
To answer your questions, R5B7, yes, no, no, and no. I decided to just do a clean install (since the last thing I did was accidentally whipe all my database data), so I grabbed a fresh R5B7 image, burned it onto a fresh cd, and about an hour later I was back in business. In short, yes, that got me right back on track.
Here is where things start to get weird. I turned on my DirecTV reciever when suddenly it lost satelite signal, changed to some random 4-digit channel (which we don't get on our plan), then shut off. Now I may be wrong, but that shouldn't happen. I didn't have my mythbox plugged into it at the time (or anything else except the television) so Knoppmyth is not the culprit.
Could I have a defective box? Have my struggles thus far been in vain? If anyone has seen something like this, please tell me. In the meantime, I'm going to fashion an IR blaster since I doubt I would be able to scrounge up a new DirecTV reciever.
