I've googled, I've searched here, I've searched the wiki (which has instructions which are followed with "actually that doesn't work after all").

Could someone please help me get the GUI to run so I can fix the TV output?

I get the "Fatal: Compiled without gui" message.

Thanks!

have you tried apt-get install nvtv? Just make sure you run the right one. If the one installed by apt-get is installed to a different prefix, the one with knoppmyth may be in the path before it.

After installing do a
Code:
find /usr -name nvtv
to see if you have more than one copy of the nvtv executable.

You may wish to do this before you apt-get so that you know for sure which one came with knoppmyth.

Thanks for the reply. I tried "apt-get install nvtv" at /usr/local/bin (that's the one that came with knoppmyth) and got:
Quote:
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
nvtv is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Still same not compiled with gui message. I've found lots of posts with this problem but haven't found any solution.

download this file:
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/ma ... 2_i386.deb

then type
dpkg -i nvtv_0.4.7-2_i386.deb

My hero!!!! Thank you so much! Is it possible to run the nvtv gui remotely (using putty and xming)? The resolution is so poor on my TV that I can hardly read anything in the gui (or the command line for that matter).

Running nvtv in putty gives me:
Quote:
Xlib: connection to "localhost:10.0" refused by server
Xlib: PuTTY X11 proxy: wrong authentication protocol attempted

(nvtv:5948): Gdk-WARNING **: cannot open display: (null)

Well, I've just been trying that myself (to check that the instructions I gave you worked). I had to fire up my old myth box with the mx400 in it because nvtv just exits with a seg fault on a machione with an fx5200.

I installed it on my old machine by sshing from a windoes box. I am running an x server on the windows box, so i just set the display to my windows machine and ran nvtv and up the gui popped.

So, yes. you should be able to run the display up to a different x server.
