Hello all,
I have tried everything. My problem is that scheduled recordings have the same start and end time and are therefore zero length. If I try to delete I get a message saying the file does not exist. Myth still reports however that the programme is recording.
I've tried re-installing ivtv, I then ran mythtv-setup to re-install the PVR card and sources, No Good.
I then turned to mysql. I saw that BBC1 for instance had no freqid.
I can't do a screenshot so here is the output for BBC1 via the uk alternative (radio times uk) grabber:
chanid=1005
channum=BBC1
freqid=NULL
callsign=BBC1
Now, I would have expected BBC1 to be numbered 101. I've tried all combinations of freqid, channum etc but still live tv records (sometimes with programme details as well, usually blank details) but I have NEVER been able to schedule a recording, unless I leave the tv picture showing.
mythbackend.log always says it cannot find or cannot change to a channel.
I've tried suggestions in similar posts on here, but nothing makes a difference.
Could someone please point me in the right direction?
This is the closest I've been to getting a working knoppmyth TV (I've abandoned the plugins), but I'm ready to give up. I'm sooo close to getting it going...
Thanks in advance

I get this when there is no signal. For example, if I unplug the antenna, or if Zap2It has messed up my lineup and it's trying to record a non-existent channel. I had FUN with that this weekend!!!

Are you using somekind of IR Blaster + script?
The freqid is the set of digits sent to the script, for example in my case the channum for my setup, capturing from a Telewest STB, is 1001 but the freqid is 101.
Has your Video Source been set up for your Sky package in mythtv-setup?
Has your Video Source been connected to a single input on your PVR350 in mythtv-setup?

Thanks for the reply,
No ir blaster set up, I just change channels using the sky remote at the moment. I'm not buying anything else till I get this working!
I'm certain I've set things up properly (I've installed plenty of times!)
I've set up the only input to be composite, even though I'm using a s-video input, feeding the source of the pvr350. If it's not set up as composite, it displays in black and white.
I've set up the UK grabber and the schedule information shows properly in mythtv. Viewing live tv is no problem, so the connection and card is, I think, set up ok. Live tv records fine, but no tv programme details are stored with the recording.
It's interesting what you say about the channum and freqid. I have set it up in the mythtv-setup/channel editor to show 101 as the freqid and checked in mysql, but it still won't record.
After the initial setup and grab, all of the freqid values were NULL, and the channum's were the short names of the channels. You seem to be saying that my values should be:
chanid=1005
channum=1005
freqid=101
callsign=BBC1
I haven't tried this, I'll give it a go.
No disrespect bruce, but if anyone else has any ideas, I'd be really grateful.

As far as I understand, if it is a non-tuner input, freqid used for the value fed to the channel change script, so in your case, that doesn't apply.

Okay,
I've tried that and no change.
I did find though that if I deleted the chanum values (words, actually eg BBC1 BBC2) then while recording live tv, appropriate programme details are also recorded. The first test recording after booting erases itself for no reason, so thats not so good. Still refurses to record a scheduled programme. It says it ends the same time as it starts and myth can't find the file for it.
I've re-run the grabber and that has re-set all the freqid values to NULL apart from the chanels I've setup in the channel editor.
Any other ideas? Petrol - matches...

The only things I can suggest doing are:
Trying to set this up with a vanilla 5D1 installation, rather than 5D1+upgrade, just to make sure that everything is working OK.
Keeping the channum with the numeric values.
I've noticed that live recordings sometimes do seem to disappear quite quickly, but I think that's due to me changing tuners after switching on Live TV.

I've recently encounterd the same problem after trying my first installation. Scheduled recordings are zero length with the same start and stop times, but I can watch live TV fine. It shows the correct information in the recent recording section and I am able to delete them. Unfortunately I'm new the the linux thing so that's another hurdle I constantly am needing to overcome. Not sure it would help, but I can check to see what my freqid is set at if you give me a hint of where to look. Like I said I'm new to the whole thing. Sorry I can't be of more help but maybe with two of us looking for answers we can figure something out.
Just for the record I'm using a Hauppauge PVR-150 and I am currently trying to get the IR-blaster to work as well. Running my channel changing script causes irsend to return the error "could not connect to socket, connection refused"
I'll let you know If I figure anything out through local channels...

Has anyone figured out what's wrong? I seem to have the same problem.
I'm using the Hauppage PVR150 composite input, and when I setup a manual
recording, MythTV says "The file for this recording can not be found", and the
recording time shows up as End = 1 min less than the Start time. I can
watch live TV through the composite input just fine, and it does record it like
when I watch any other live TV through the tuner. (By the way, the video
quality of the through that 150 card, both tuner and composite, isn't near as
good as my TV tuner, a little dark and reds are too intense, but one problem at
a time...)

I've had 0 length recordings for a couple of reasons, I was using 2 DVB cards and running out of buffers, recording items from pre-recorded tapes on a VCR with the PVR350 and using a WinTV Theater (one of the Brooktree based cards) on another box and not having a dummy channel change script setup.
I ran into a problem of recording from the Composite input using a dummy "Video Channel", so what I did was create a dummy script which basically accepts a value and exits returning 0. Something like: Code: #!\bin\sh exit 0
Then make this script executable and in the Input Connections in mythtv-setup call this script as the channel change script. In the Channel Editor, in the second screen for a particular channel, put in a dummy value (like 10) in the "Channel or Frequency" field, hopefully this should fix that problem.
On the same screen there are sliders for Colour, brightness etc, this may help in your picture colour issues.
In the frontend application, there is a setting for recording profiles (Utilities/Setup->Setup->TV Settings->Recording->Hardware Encoders) , which sets capture resolution and bit rate, it could be your capture resolution and/or bit rate are too low.
I would check in your mythbackend.log ( /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log ) to see what error is being generated at the time of recording.

bruce_s01 wrote: Something like: Code: #!\bin\sh exit 0 You mean: Code: #!/bin/bash exit 0 (Unix/Linux uses forward slashes and was doing so before MS-DOS came along.) Don't forget to make that executable using: Code: chmod +x DUMMY_SCRIPT_NAME_HERE.sh
and specify the full path name to the script in the mythtv-setup Input Connection form.
Better still, you don't need to create a dummy script at all. Simply use /bin/true as the command to execute.

Oops!
I don't know why I did that.
Thanks for the catch.

Well, I found out that the problems with the zero length recordings was happening because my channel changing script used for changing my satellite receiver was erroring out. The error was due to a bad PVR-150. Once I replaced the card everything worked great. I hate hardware problems...
