I had some luck with the remote out of the box, but not all the buttons did something (I've been chasing down other problems with my install)

Now that I'm ready to tackle the remote (so it's change my DishNetwork box), I'm wondering if people with the latest KnoppMyth install (R5D1) need to do all the steps in this HowTo (Everyone seems to be on an earlier version of KnoppMyth).

Also, is the "dog bone" remote the silver remote?

That's normal. There are several examples around that map more of the buttons.


No to the first, yes to the second. BTW - Current version is R5E50, and someone is actually working on a web based configurator which will let you generate a custom lircrc config file.

Omit all of them. It's handled automatically in modern versions. The lirc-reconfig.sh script is run during the Phase 2b install/setup, you just need to supply the requested answers. See the upgrade hints for extras like restoring custom configuration.
