I have Knopopmyth R5D1 pretty much working on one machine with the same PC for the front end and backend. Except that MythStreamTV is giving me fits. Maybe it is just something silly I am doing wrong but I dont think so. Eventually I would like to stream live TV but right now I can't even get recordings to work. Judging from the other posts the latter is easier to get working.

Basically when I go into MythWeb and click StreamTV. Then I choose a recording and click next. Then I choose some very simple Stream settings (I have tried many variations) and hit Start Live Stream.

On the next screen I either press PLAY or just go right to the stream links (Either mms://mythtv:8001 or http://mythtv:8001)
But I always get some sort of cannot connect message. I have tried using Windows Media Player on a remote machine, Real Player on a remote machine, VLC on both a remote machine and the same machine that is running the backend. But nothing works.

I usually see in the upper right "WARNING: STREAMING IS ACTIVE". My capture card is Hauppage PVR-150 which works fine to capture.

Any ideas on what to try? My next step is to install R5E50 but I'm not sure anything has changed to fix my problem in that version.

Thanks a lot.

The above thread has some great information which may help me down the line. But I had found this one before and my situation is a bit different. I currently have R5D1 and have not upgraded yet. I tried following the instructions in the thread anyways but even the first step does not work.

/var/www/mythweb/modules/streamtv/includes does not exist on my system.

I must say, I really think this whole thing must have been broken in R5D1 right out of the box because I installed it on a completely different system and have the exact same problem. (Unless I am missing something very obvious).

My next step is the install R5E50 on a new hard drive and see what happens. I'll post the results here.

Well I installed R5E50 and now I think there is a little stronger possibility that I am doing something silly. When I go into "StreamTV" the final screen has these two links to launch the stream:
[mms://my.host.com:8001] | [http://my.host.com:8001]

I know that is wrong since I didn't set up and host.com entries anywhere. Just for kicks I tried opening the stream in VLC as mms://192.168.1.102:8001 but it did not work.
In mythtv-setup - General, I didn't change the IP addresses from the original 127.0.0.1 but I'm not sure that would fix it.

So I am back at square one. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Okay, I was doing something stupid for a while anyways. Originally on R5D1 I was trying to connect to http://mythtv:8001 which won't work because mythtv is not a hostname on my network. When I installed R5E50 I was exclusively testing mms thinking that the http/mms thing had nothing to do with it. So there I had tried connecting to my IP mms://192.168.1.102:8001

So I just need the combination of HTTP and using the machine's address (or at least registered hostname) to connect like this:

http://192.168.1.102:8001

Now I've discovered a different problem. After streaming performance descreases and just watching TV on the main server machine is choppy - Even if I have stopped the stream. Rebooting makes it fast again. I'll probably need to examine the processes running before and after to track it down.

There are at least 6, and probably more like 12, threads on exactly this topic in the forums. At least one of them claims to have solved it, by patching a variety of problems in the .php files. The fixes described looked correct to me when I reviewed them. I'd suggest a search and possibly a PM to the member who posted the fix.
