Thanks to misterflibble for posting the link. It's interesting that the myth crew is working this.

Although to address Gibble's point that the little window makes MCE look cooler than Myth I say perhaps, but what I find in Myth is that I don't need it. I hardly ever watch live tv, because not even Myth can skip commercials in Live TV. Cecil, get to work on that! (just kidding :D )
occasionally, I'll watch time-delayed but I digress. Having the little-window is usually pretty annoying to whoever is sitting on the couch next to you. "Hey I'm watching that!"

I generally have my notebook with me when I'm watching a video/recording anyway, so what I find coolest about Myth over MCE, Replay, Cable boxes, and to a lesser degree TiVo, is that I can view my listings, video inventory, upcoming recordings, and just about everything over MythWeb WITHOUT having to reduce my video to a postage stamp on screen, that annoys the wife/kids. (You can do all this in MCE if you're playing via extender; but that's closer to using a second front-end on Myth so we'll call it even at that point.)

As for MCE being easier to set up; maybe. But remember for the longest time MS wouldn't let you set up MCE -- you had you had to buy a pre-configured system from a vendor or else walk some shady lines in terms of OIM agreements. Even now you're supposed to by off the shortlist of MCE-approved parts. Myth on other distros is a pain to set-up and maintain, but that's why I switched to KnoppMyth. Cecil and crew have taken 99% of the work out of a Myth setup. I bet if you limited your purchases to KRP hardware, or just bought a Dragon, then KnoppMyth would be just as easy or easier to set up than MCE.

And to tjc's point; I personally find that KnoppMyth addresses many of the failings of Myth running on "insert distro here" I would suggest that the group involved might want to try considering it flattering when someone suggests KnoppMyth is capable of addressing issues that are technically out of your control. It sounds like complaining, but it's really a testiment to the hard work you all have done. I know I appreciate it.

Sorry, I do no coding on MythTV. I'd happily put up KnoppMyth against MCE any day of the week. I'm certain, I can have KnoppMyth installed and watching TV before MCE. Let Mr. "It depends on your definition of no" know, I'm ready whenever he is...

Ok, I'm going to try and not sound like an ass when I make this post, but I'm afraid it's going to come out that way anyhow.

From the beginning I wasn't requesting this be done, nor was I saying someone here should do it. I was merely asking if anyone knew if anybody was doing any work on this? It was meant for DISCUSSION, not a complaint, just an observation.

I also never came in and asked "Have you fixed it yet?"...I was asking if anybody had heard anything, or knew anything more.

I figured with so many avid Myth users here, maybe some people are more informed than I.

Instead, I have a few people jump down my throat because there are no developers here.

What is it with forums that make people puff up their chests and act superior, and attack anyone who simply asks a question because they don't already know the answer? Or asked in the wrong place?

At least a few people were nice enough to try and have a conversation and point me in the correct directions. To those few, "thanks".

I actually came here because I was going to install KnoppMyth again to replace my Myth on Ubuntu install...and I'm now reconsidering that decision.

I wouldn't reconsider it. Knoppmyth is worth the effort. I agree with you and honestly I don't think it would be that hard to implement. The "watch while you browse" issue is just one of many I have with MythTV. Well, maybe not that many.

I have been poking through the source to see if it was possible. I don't think it would all that hard to implement. I think the hardest part would be implementing the theme to display it. UI aspects scare the hell out of me. Once I get my plate cleared a little, I might try to tackle this. But don't hold your breath, as I am a lazy programmer.

You sound like me :p

I get home from coding all day, do a little freelancing for some extra green...and when it comes to free coding...I'm too tired to get started.
