I am already aware that MythTV does decode Closed Caption and overlay CC on the video itself since I have set up a MythTV temporary over a year ago using an old WinTV card and CC works good on it.

But my question is

Does MythTV records the it own overlay CC into mpeg file? So I don't need to use any "CC supported" mpeg player to view them since it is now open caption instead of closed caption?

I am wanting to use a portable mpeg hardware viewer to watch my recorded show with open caption becasue I am sure there is no such portable mpeg player out there that have a built in CC decoder or even a subtitle playback.

Another question is that standard CC is black bar background with white texts on top of it and on SageTV using VM9 overlay the black bar background is still there but more transparent which you can see the bar and the video behind it too with white texts on it and I like that feature very much so does MythTV CC feature offer something like that?

Last time I test MythTV CC and all it offer was just "off / on CC" that all but that was over a year ago so I wonder if CC feature have been improved on newer versions. ie changing fonts size or lettering color etc.

One last question, I am aware in the past PVR 500 cards have issues of displaying CC in MythTV (this is why I was using old WinTV card) and have that issue been resolved by now that CC is displaying in MythTV without garbles using PVR500 cards? (I know this is more of a IVIT driver question but CC works perfectly on PV500 in SageTV)

I am currently using SageTV but needing the CC to be recorded into mpeg as an open caption badly and wanted to post this and ask before I reformat Linux over Windows to try it.

Thank you
Bill

I have 2 PVR-150's and can turn on captioning for shows I've recorded on them. So captions should work on your PVR-500.

But does the Closed Caption get recorded into the video itself too?

I wanted to be able to turn on the Closed Caption before it get recorded into mpeg file so I can watch it Open Caption on mpeg player that does not have Closed Caption decoders or support them.

Thank you
Bill
