Nvidia has just released some new drivers. not sure if the overscan is fixed again or not didn't mention it in the changelog, but they've added what looks to be a nice control panel, and looking in the readme I saw some tvout options I hadn't noticed before ( doesn't mean they weren't there)
The "TVStandard" option should be added to your screen section; valid
values are:
"PAL-B" : used in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Guinea,
Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, The
Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain,
Sweden, and Switzerland
"PAL-D" : used in China and North Korea
"PAL-G" : used in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Malaysia,
The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden,
and Switzerland
"PAL-H" : used in Belgium
"PAL-I" : used in Hong Kong and The United Kingdom
"PAL-K1" : used in Guinea
"PAL-M" : used in Brazil
"PAL-N" : used in France, Paraguay, and Uruguay
"PAL-NC" : used in Argentina
"NTSC-J" : used in Japan
"NTSC-M" : used in Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador,
Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, South
Korea, Taiwan, United States of America, and Venezuela
"HD480i" : 480 line interlaced "HD480p" : 480 line progressive "HD720p" : 720 line progressive "HD1080i": 1080 line interlaced "HD1080p": 1080 line progressive "HD576i" : 576 line interlace "HD576p" : 576 line progressive
this is interesting for several reasons. there are some interlace modes that may help people suffering with pvr250 + xvmc and there are some very high rez modes. Like I said this may be old news and not applicable, but I just haven't seen it before.

gave them a try, installed nice and easy and worked a treat on my monitor. But the tv would not work at all. So have gone back to the original ones in the pack.

Im a VERY excited man!!! i have been reading on the myth threads:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/75167
And it looks like not only does this driver fix the interlacing and Overscan problems!! but it works too!! bonus! It also has a "control panel" to change overscan on the fly without restarting x. and HDTV support.. and other stuff! This made my week. I have been fighting interlacing problems since i got my mythbox. My latest setup is 98% great.. but maybe this will get me to 100%

Tried nvidia-installer -update, now i get the following error when starting x with glx support:
Quote: (II) Initializing extension GLX
*** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not *** be the reason for the server aborting.
Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting
Can anyone help?

I'm a Semi-linux n00b and I'm unsure how to get out of the Gnome/FVM/X So that the NVidia driver install will not complain at me that it is still running.
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace dosnt work, nor does going to Ctrl+Alt+F1. If I do Exit-FVWM it takes me to the Gnome Desktop manager, but there is no way to exit.

Ctrl-alt-f1
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
but be careful, glx seems to be broken for me after updating...

I remember when I was first setting up X, the GLX didn't work right I had to comment it out.

I've got the same problem. Everything seemed to install OK, but I keep getting
Quote: Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting
I've been through the Nvidia README, FAQs, ... and so on from end to end without finding an issue that matched. All the installed libraries appear to be the correct ones, I've run ldconfig, checked the symlinks, run "ldd /usr/bin/mythfrontend" to make sure it was using the right libraries, rebooted, ...
Commenting out Load "glx" is about the only thing that appears to help, but it kind of defeats the purpose... 8-/

well actually for mythtv we probably don't use much glx stuff, but I'm sure it will come out what the problem is. someone on the mythtv mailing list said it crashed for them on svideo out, but worked vga, a couple of days and we should see the answers rolling out.

The nvidia-settings application is pretty sweet.... I forsee much mucking about trying to finally get the brightness up near the TV's own tuner without washing everything else out...

well may be something about debian 2.4 kernels, but I've updated my desktop machine which is debian unstable with the latest 2.6 kernel, and no issues at all. running great.
edit -- ok actually looked at the thread now, but still I had no problems with mine at all.

Based on the contents of that thread, here's an interesting thought.... Everything else in that directory is a "lib*.a",
Code: root@black:~ # ls -al /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/ total 948 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jul 1 23:08 . drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4096 Aug 31 2003 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15408 Apr 16 2003 libdbe.a -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 29256 Apr 16 2003 libdri.a -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 154470 Apr 16 2003 libextmod.a lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Jul 1 23:08 libglx.so -> libglx.so.1.0.6106 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 683992 Jul 1 23:08 libglx.so.1.0.6106 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 23384 Apr 16 2003 librecord.a -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 38134 Apr 16 200
Maybe the X server isn't set up right to deal with "lib*.so"? I've checked, and this is the ONLY place that libglx exists on my system, so it's not like it's getting the wrong version from somewhere else.

I've enjoyed the new drivers ... however I'm still sad that NVidia hasn't done anything to provide "flicker reduction" features, like there windows counterpart...
ohh well, another 5 months and they'll do another update....

I could have sworn I saw somewhere that the control panel has some flicker reduction stuff for tvout.
