Solution is in last post.
Mostly this went well.

This one is an older Gigabyte - GA 7Zmmh mobo with an Athlon 2200+

it only has one PVR 150 but is my primary Front end box

I deleted and resetup the pvr 150 like 3 times now and I get that it is unavailable in the System information and everything defaults to Tuner 1 in the MBE.

Here is what appears to be my Tuner card setup (IVTV) from the syslog:

If there is something else you can recommend I look at or post let me know. I may try a reinstall of this system, as I don't see any answers or similar symptoms to this in the forum.

Regards.

Update and a Bump.
I believe I am onto the root cause of the problem..

I upgraded my second FE/SBE
it carries a PVR 500 for tuners.

First I built the system as a standalone. MBE/FE combination the Tuners are recognized and it is able to record and playback those files.
Everything works fine.
It is an Abit NF7-s with a Duron 1800 and 512 megs of Ram but a small hard drive.

Next I converted it to the FE/SBE it was originally.

When i look in system settings it comes as Tuner 5 and 6 but they are not available
Once my MBE finishes recording one of the wifes shows I will go into the MySQL Tuner cards and see what I can find in there.

It isn't a must but it would be nice if I could get rid of the extra tuner numbers and get back to 1-4 while I fix this.

It would seem that these SBE are only partially being accepted by the MBE database.

Thoughts? Anything else I can provide?

I will keep puttering myself on this.

Mostly it seems it may have been my fault.

I remembered some quirks when I first built the 3 systems how it was finicky in setting up the 3 capture cards/4 tuners across the 3 boxes.

I opened the MBE/FE and the primary SBE/FE in two VNC windows.
Next I exited to the desktops on both of them and shutdown (Alt-2) on both Backends . Don't ask me why but it seems there are two backends running although everything defaults to one location.

I ram Mythtv-Setup (ALT-S) on both machines and deleted "All Capture Cards" in both machines starting with the MBE then the SBE.

Now I powered down, waited 5 min. then restarted both machines MBE then SBE.

Returned to the Desktop, then I stopped the Backends (Alt-2) again and started Mythtv-Setup (Alt-S) on both of them.

On the MBE first I added the capture card, checked that the source was still there and then Connected the source to the Card Input (S-video) in my case. I exited that Mythtv-setup, and acknowledged the Master backend warning about mythfilldatabase.

Next the SBE I added the capture card, checked the Source was there, and then connected the source to the Card Input (S-Video). I exited mythtv-setup and acknowledged the the Master backend warning about mythfilldatabase.

Now I returned to the MBE window and opened a terminal (Alt-x) and ran mythfilldatabase.

Once mythfilldatabase completed on the MBE I closed the terminal. Then I started the Backend (Alt-3). Next I brought up the Frontend (Alt-M) waited a couple of minutes (recommended in the Hints for other reasons)
Checked the System Status Tuner 1 was there and Tuner 2 was unavialable.

I went to my VNC window for the SBE and started the backend (Alt-3) waited a couple of minutes, then brought up the Frontend (Alt-M).

I went back to the MBE and checked System Status and after the second refresh of the screen Tuner 2 was now available and so was Tuner 1.

Woohoo!

I have restarted both machines a couple of times and even done a little recording or watch live tv on Tuner 2. It works from both the MBE/FE and the SBE/FE.

I don't know exactly why it took these specific steps or if it was that restart in the middle with no cards but hey it worked and now the WAF is climbing again......

I guess an old dog can learn new tricks!
