I have been running R5A30.2 for years now with WOL running ok. WOL was installed be following squiffy's excellent HOW TO http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=WakeonLANConcierge

However, since upgrading to R5F1, when I do:
Code:
ethtool -s eth0 wol g

and shut the box down, and on the 24/7 machine
Code:
wakeonlan MACaddress

nothing happens. If I do exactly the same running R5A30.2, the mythbox starts up as normal.

Any ideas?

Algenon.

Algenon,

Don't know about R5F1, but seems to work OK in R5F27, which I needed to handle the North American EPG stuff with DataDirect shutting down after Sept. 1.

Although this 'sound' like a dumb suggestion...I'll follow the support desk mantra: is there anything you might have changed since the upgrade in BIOS that might prevent WOL from functioning (I did read that you said it works OK with your R5A30 install).

One thing you can try is running 'ifconfig' as root (or su) at a terminal prompt and see if your driver in R5F1 supports WOL.

Unfortunately, I have no plans to try an R5F1 install to see if I can mimic your behaviour. Sorry mate.

I remember our email traffic from before on the HOWTO -- which I fully plan on updating once my production R5F27 is up -- my old R5C7 WOL set up that prompted the HOWTO creation is still chugging along -- just with manual recordings. My R5F27 fresh install just doesn't want to cooperate with my other hardware.

Let the thread know how you made out and copy in your 'ifconfig' output.

Squiffy

Hi Squiffy, good to hear from you again.

I have two hard drrives; one IDE which has R5A30.2 loaded and the other a nice new 750GB SATA which is loaded with R5F1. I can simply swap from one to the other without changing the BIOS. R5A30.2 works with WOL, but R5F1 doesn't. That to me rules out both hardware and BIOS.

I get a couple of error messages on boot-up with R5F1 (I don't know if they are related), one which says
Code:
FATAL error inserting cx88_dvb/lib/modules/2.6.18-chw-13/kernel/drivers/media/video/cx88_dvb.ko

which I assume is the kernel trying to do a dynamic load on a non-existent module. However, the system continues (so it's not really fatal) and the system runs fine. I don't know if this is related to the problem.

I suspect the only way to be rid of the top one is to re-compile the kernel and it's modules?

Any thoughts?

Algenon.

I'm running R5D1 but I had the same problem until I edited /etc/init.d/halt. Even though my network adapter light was on after power off, seems the device itself was being brought down during shutdown. This fixed it.

Before:

Code:
halt -d -f -i -p

After:

Code:
ifconfig eth0 <machines ip> up
halt -d -f -p

Thanks tatuirovka, that solved it. I also added it to my bootmisc.sh too.
