I have a very simple fix for this problem. All you have to do is log in with SSH and rerun the setup_pvr350.sh script to fix the problem.

The script is in /usr/local/bin and can be run over SSH. This reconfigures the xorg.conf for the right settings. Then reboot and it should go into X instead of giving the respawning error.

I only tried this using SecureCRT so it might not work on other SSH platforms

Excellent tip. I've added a link to this in the hints.

All I had to do to fix the problem was change the frame buffer in Xorg.conf to fb1 from fb0.

Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Brian.Almond

I had the problem with pvr-350 green screen and "respawning too fast" when I upgraded girlfriends system from R5F1 to R5F27.

girlfriend system:
PVR350 for ntsc capture input from sat rx and tv output
AMD 1400
512 meg ram
500 gig hd

changing fb0 to fb1 did not fix the problem, but running
setup_pvr350.sh did!!!

Thank you, this thread has helped me solve my problems when upgrading from R5E50 to R5F27.

R5F27 worked fine on the monitor but when using setup_350.sh in order to get TV-out of my Hauppauge PVR350 to work, X did not start.

Reading this thread made me check
# cat /proc/fb
which gave no result.
After manually adding ivtvfb to the modules (echo ivtvfb >> /etc/modules) and setting /dev/fb0 in xorg.conf, TVout started to work, but I got the "respawning too fast" message on the TV.

After a rerun of setup_350.sh TVout now works!

Now Knoppmyth is back in our living-room!

Thank you again for the helpful advice.

FredP's system:
Knoppmyth R5F27
ASUS K8N ATX 250 DDR AGP
AMD Sempron 64 bit 2500+
1G RAM
ASUS V7700Ti
Hauppauge PVR350
